Understanding auto focusing...
How many times have you faced this issue? And we blame the camera for not focusing properly. Camera simply does not know what you are trying to focus. It has it's own way of achieving auto focus. Get a hold of it and you should be able to overcome those challenges.
Most of the camera have different types of auto focusing point sensors (cross type, non cross type and may be dual cross type). These are responsible for achieving auto focus depending on the amount of light on the subject and the contrast there.
Understand how each of these work and set your auto focusing options accordingly. Don't blame the poor camera the next time you get an image like this. It's YOU as a photographer who did not instruct the camera on what to do :)
