The Main Components Used For Making The Durga Idol Include Bamboo, Straws, Husk, And Mud. The Mud Is A Mix Of Mud From The Banks Of The Holy River Ganga, Cow Dung, Cow Urine, And Mud From The Brothel.

This Age-Old Ritual Of Using Mud From The Brothel Has Many Interpretations. It Is Believed That The Path The Pr******tes Have Chosen Is A Sin In Itself, And For That Reason Including The Soil Of Their Land For Durga Idol Making, Purifies Them In The Process. Also, While They Hand Over The Soil To The Priest, Amidst The Mantras Enchanted By The Latter, The Souls Of The Pr******tes Are Unburdened.

Another Perspective, Based On the Vedas, Is That Women Fall Under Nine Classes (Navakanyas), Who Are To Be Worshipped Along With Goddess Durga During The Durga Puja. The Pr******te (Vaishya) Falls Under Those Nine Classes. Thus, The Use Of The Soil From Their Doorsteps Is A Sign Of Respect Given To Them During The Puja.

Whatever The Reasons Might Be, The Centuries-Old Ritual Is Still Followed Without Any Questioning.
