Geography of Manali : Manali is located at 32.2396 N, 77.1887 E, about 40 km (25 mi) north of Kullu town. The town ranges in elevation from 1,800 m (5,900 ft) to 2,000 m (6,600 ft) in the uppermost Old Manali section.

History of Manali : Manali is named after the Sanatan Hindu lawgiver Manu. The name Manali is regarded as the derivative of 'Manu-Alaya' which literally means 'the abode of Manu'. Legend has it that sage Manu stepped off his ark in Manali to recreate human life after a great flood had deluged the world. Manali lies in the North of Kullu Valley. The valley is often referred to as the 'Valley of the Gods'. Old Manali village has an ancient temple dedicated to sage Manu.

The British introduced apple trees in the area. The first apple orchard was set up by the British near Patlikuhl, prior to this no Apple trees grew in the area. To this day, apple—along with plum and pear—remain the best source of income for the majority of inhabitants. Both Rainbow and Brown Trout was also introduced into the rivers and streams of the area by the colonisers.

Before other luminaries started visiting Manali, India's first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru favoured this as a holiday destination in the mountains.

Geography of Shimla : Shimla lies in the south-western ranges of the Himalayas at 31.61°N 77.10°E. It has an average altitude of 2,206 metres (7,238 ft) above mean sea level and extends along a ridge with seven spurs. The city stretches nearly 9.2 kilometres (5.7 mi) from east to west.Shimla was built on top of a total of seven different hills namely: Inverarm Hill, Observatory Hill, Prospect Hill, Summer Hill, Bantony Hill, Elysium Hill and Jakhoo Hill. The highest point in Shimla is the Jakhoo hill, which is at a height of 2,454 metres (8,051 ft).

The city is a Zone IV (High Damage Risk Zone) per the Earthquake hazard zoning of India. Weak construction techniques and an increasing population pose a serious threat to the already earthquake prone region.[18][19] There are no water bodies near the main city and the closest river, the Sutlej, is about 21 km (13 mi) away.[20] Other rivers that flow through the Shimla district, although further from the city, are the Giri, and Pabbar (both tributaries of Yamuna).

In summer, trough we feel uncomfortable for extreme heat, yet we get various kinds of sweet fruits in this season. After a long spell of hot weather, the rainy season comes with showers to cool the earth. During the rainy season by sky often remains overcast with thick black clouds that hover across the sky close to the earth surface. The low-lying lands go under water and look like a vast sheet of water. In autumn there is play of hide and seeks among the clouds. The sky in an autumn nigh studded with innumerable stars appears to be a dreamland to the on-lookers. In late autumn Nature smile with the dew drops in the morning. In winter fields full of winter spring with all its beautiful sights and sounds and make Bangladesh the queen of all beauties.

Being a riverine country, her rivers present different scenes at different times. Especially the rivers in the rainy season present an unbroken view of variety of sights, which amuses our eyes. Again the long Sea-beach of the Bay of Bangal at Cox’s bazar is worth seeing.

Each of her natural regions such as Rangamati, Kaptai, Sylhet, Moinamati, Sundarbans etc are blessed with the most enchanting natural beauty. The scenery of these places is so charming and attractive that there is always a rush of tourism and visitors in these places from home and aboard throughout the year.
