Nature’s Vibrant Gem: The Common Green Magpie 🌿✨
​There are sightings that stay with you long after the shutter clicks. Deep within the lush, verdant canopies of Latpanchar, the striking Common Green Magpie (Cissa chinensis) made a stunning appearance.
​Known for its vivid green plumage, crimson wings, and distinct black mask, this member of the crow family is as intelligent as it is beautiful. Interestingly, their brilliant green feathers can actually fade to turquoise if exposed to prolonged sunlight, making every sighting of a "true green" individual in the wild truly special.

​Patience is a virtue when you're tracking the Grey-bellied Tesia in the hills of Latpanchar. This tiny Himalayan gem might be small, but its presence fills the entire forest. Watching it hop through the mossy shadows of the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is a reminder that the best things in nature often come in the smallest packages.

A monochrome marvel in the heart of the hills. 🏔️🐦
I was thrilled to spot this male Little Pied Flycatcher (Ficedula westermanni) during my recent trek through the lush canopies of Latpanchar. Despite its tiny size, its bold black-and-white patterns and distinctive white supercilium make it a standout against the deep greens of the Eastern Himalayas.
There’s something incredibly rewarding about the patience required to capture these active little birds. Latpanchar never fails to deliver for those who keep their eyes on the mossy branches.

A Rare Glimpse: The Alpine Thrush in Lepchajagat 🏔️
​The mist cleared just long enough for a moment of pure high-altitude magic.
​Deep in the rhododendron forests of Lepchajagat, we crossed paths with the elusive Alpine Thrush (Zoothera mollissima). Known for its preference for the quiet, rocky slopes of the Eastern Himalayas, seeing one this clearly through the West Bengal fog is a rare treat for any birder.
​There’s something incredibly grounding about the stillness of these mountains—where the only sound is the crisp wind and the rustle of a thrush among the moss.
