Kyabje Rinpoche attended the Learning Showcase Event as the Chief Guest at Drukgyel Higher Secondary School today, upon the request of the school administration.
The event was organized to celebrate, preserve, and promote Bhutanese culture, traditions, and local cuisines. It featured a variety of activities, including Lozay competitions, a Bhutanese traditional fashion show, live cooking demonstrations of local cuisines, an exhibition of traditional artifacts, traditional games, and cultural dances.
After the event, at the request of the school, Kyabje Rinpoche gave teachings to the students on two topics. First, Rinpoche gave a simple introduction to Lord Buddha and Buddhist teachings. Second, Rinpoche spoke about external and internal education.
Rinpoche explained that graduating at the top of the class is external education, but it does not necessarily make someone a good human being. Internal education makes us better human beings by teaching us to respect and remain loyal to our country, Kings, culture and traditions, teachers, religion, parents, and elders.
As a gesture of support and appreciation for the school's efforts to preserve and promote Bhutanese culture and traditions, Kyabje Rinpoche, on behalf of Young Buddhist Association of Bhutan, also offered several gifts to the students through a free lucky draw, including a laptop, an iPad, a smartphone, a smartwatch, and a video game console.

“I had never spoken to great spiritual masters before no Lamas, no Rimpoche, no Trulku. Not once in my life. Sometimes, I used to wonder quietly within myself… why have I never been given such a chance? Was it simply fate, or was I somehow not worthy enough to receive their presence?

And yet, today, something beyond imagination unfolded.

Under the scorching sun, amidst a gathering filled with devotion, I stood there just another person in the crowd. Then, unexpectedly, His Holiness Garab Rinpoche turned his attention toward me. In that moment, time felt like it stopped. With a gentle and compassionate voice, he asked me, “Are you feeling very hot?” Before I could even gather my thoughts or respond, a few drops of ice-cold water were poured upon me as a blessing.

I was speechless. Completely mute. My mind went blank, but my heart… my heart felt something I cannot fully explain.

Later, as if to deepen the mystery of the moment, I met an old friend. He told me something that shook me even more, His Holiness Rimpoche often recognizes those who are in need of special blessings. Hearing this, I stood still, reflecting on what had just happened. Was this mere coincidence? Or was I being seen in a way I had never seen myself before?

Today, I mark this date not as an ordinary day, but as a turning point in my life. An unexpected, unbelievable moment where such a great soul looked at me, not as part of a crowd, but as an individual and asked with compassion, “Are you feeling hot?”

That simple question felt like more than concern for the body, it felt like a call to awaken something deeper within me.

Today, my spiritual self stirred once again. Something that had been quiet for so long began to rise. It felt as if a door had gently opened. A path I had always been searching for but never clearly seen.

This moment has awakened in me a longing to step forward, to walk the Dharmic path with sincerity, humility, and awareness. Perhaps this was not luck or coincidence after all… perhaps this was a blessing meant to guide me, to remind me, and to awaken me.

And now I carry this moment in my heart as the beginning of my journey inward.”

Kyabje Rinpoche often reminds us that the role of a Rinpoche or Lama is not only to sit on a throne, give empowerments, or lead rituals. As times and mindsets change, a Rinpoche should also be a symbol of harmony and help build good relationships among different communities and societies.
For his disciples and devotees, Kyabje Rinpoche travels widely to give teachings and religious discourses upon requests. For non-devotees and non-believers who attend these gatherings, Kyabje Rinpoche connects with them through joyful activities such as playing khuru, games, and even joining group dances. Through this, Kyabje Rinpoche reminds everyone that we should stay united and live in harmony, regardless of religious beliefs, as we are all citizens of one country under our beloved King.
Because of the positive energy Kyabje Rinpoche brings, thousands of people gather wherever he goes. Even when Kyabje Rinpoche is tired, he always puts community harmony first.
To those few non-believers who criticize or speak negatively about Kyabje Rinpoche, I invite you to attend one of his gatherings. I am sure your views will change, and your negativity will turn into understanding and boundless love.

“You come from a humble background with a small child. I cannot take away all your problems, but maybe I can carry a small part of them with you.”

On December 19, Kyabje Rinpoche organized a dinner with the villagers in Breka, a small remote village in Trashigang. During the dinner, a young man in a wheelchair, along with his family, came to Kyabje Rinpoche to receive blessings. The man shared that one of his children had recently passed away. He requested Kyabje Rinpoche’s prayers for his family, hoping for strength and a better life ahead.
Kyabje Rinpoche listened with deep compassion, and said gently that he would pray for the family, but his prayers alone might not be strong enough to cure the young man’s paralysis. However, Kyabje Rinpoche shared that he wished to help in another way.

“You come from a humble background with a small child. I cannot take away all your problems, but maybe I can carry a small part of them with you.”

With great kindness, Kyabje Rinpoche pledged to send Nu. 10,000 every month to support the family, saying that right now, money might help them more than prayers, and hoped it would bring some relief and comfort to their difficult life.

In this simple act, Kyabje Rinpoche showed true compassion and selflessness. This gesture was not just charity, but Kyabje Rinpoche’s sincere wish to share the weight of another person’s suffering. Kyabje Rinpoche’s actions reminded everyone present that real kindness is not only in words or prayers, but also in the courage to give, to help, and to stand with others during their darkest moments.
This new year, let’s be kind to each other.
