The Indian pea fowl ,also known as the common peafowl (Or peacock as we commonly refer to ) is a peafowl species native to the Indian subcontinent
The male species are brightly coloured, with a predominantly blue fan-like crest of spatula-tipped wire-like feathers and is best known for the long train made up of elongated upper-tail covert feathers which bear colourful eyespots. These stiff feathers are raised into a fan and quivered in a display during courtship.
This is my most recent picture, on my road trip to Nandhur Madhmeshwar Bird sanctuary(Nashik) with my family , to view and photograph birds, along with a group of like minded Bird &wild life enthusiasts / photographers. On Our way, we stopped over at MERI (Mahrastra Engineering Institute) Dam , which has a beautiful nature park, where lots of birds can be spotted like sunbirds, Black Drongo, Flycathers etc and of course the Indian Pea fowl. This one was walking head on towards us , surrounded by lovely canopy of trees and a Fallen trunk behind, making up the frame (More will follow ;-)) Nice way to begin the morning trail.
