Mayank Soni is an independent photographer and filmmaker based in Mumbai, India. On his travels over a decade, he has lived with the last surviving head hunters of Nagaland, trekked across the frozen Zanskar river in grueling minus 20 degrees and explored the birding paradise of Eaglenest in search of the newly discovered species of Bugun. He is fascinated by tribal culture and loves places that c
an be explored on foot. Wildlife conservation photography is one area where he would love to devote more time. Working with communities in direct conflict with wildlife and finding ways to affect positive change is something he is as passionate about as getting a shot of the elusive snow leopard. Currently he is working on a personal project to document life in the valley of Gurez, which was once Kashmir’s gateway to the ancient Silk Route and now straddles the Indo-Pak LOC. He has been published in several leading publications including the Lonely Planet Magazine India, National Geographic Traveller India, Conde Nast Traveller India, Topgear, BBC Good Food, SAEVUS Magazine, The Times of India, The Hindu, Scroll.in, Hindustan Times and Mid-day.
