In celebration of International Leopard Day!

The elusive leopard (Panthera pardus) is a marvel of adaptability, successfully inhabiting diverse ecosystems across Africa and Asia. From lush rainforests to arid mountains, their spotted coats provide exceptional camouflage Here's a glimpse of a courting pair. Swipe right ➡ for the second image that showcases the fascinating phenomenon of melanism in leopards. If you can find all 4 of these playful cubs, two exhibit the melanistic (black panther) variation, demonstrate the genetic diversity within the species. This variation is a largely harmless quirk of genetics, causing the striking black coat that may have little benefits and drawbacks too.

While leopards exhibit a remarkable tolerance for human proximity, habitat loss and conflict with humans pose significant threats. Raising awareness for conservation efforts is crucial to ensure the continued survival of these magnificent felines.

7 years ago, I lost a treasure trove of images in a heartbreaking hard drive crash. Countless attempts, energy, & resources couldn't revive them. These photos held cherished memories of incredible moments with dear friends, some of them of incredibly sought-after species from the herping & frogging escapades in the Western Ghats.
Due to various assignments, projects & the pandemic, my annual ritual of monsoon herping in the ghats was sidelined for a while. Although I visited ghats a bunch of times they were without specific photographic opportunities. 2019, 2021, and 2022 took me to the Northeast, away from the Ghats, and my dream of reliving those adventures remained elusive without a closure!
But in the last 2 months, I finally rekindled these adventures, accompanied by old friends who are are also some of the top naturalists & my old partners in adventures. And even the memories of my buddies from the old trips were there in every step of the way. I did the Wayanad & Nilgiris followed by Munnar after a couple of days gap. Apart from the long herps list, we also ticked off the really long-pending megabird Banasura Chilappan!

Thanks to Shashank, Vishnu, David, Anagha, lovely little Thumbi, Surya, Sandesh, Ram & Rachita for the incredible time in Wayanad & Nilgiris. Special thanks to Hadlee for the fantastic time in Munnar & my wife Nikita for running around crazy despite it was her time away to relax from the madness of work. Ramit & Anna, you were missed dearly. But the story is far from over. Some photos are yet to be restored, and many more adventures await. Here's a glimpse of these relived memories and the incredible creatures we encountered.

While shortlisting some images, I stumbled upon these charming tiny Fulvettas in my collection of images. I was fortunate to photograph them in the picturesque Mishmi Hills in Arunachal Pradesh. Nature's beauty always surprises me, and these little wonders were no exception!

1. Golden-breasted Fulvetta (Lioparus chrysotis)
2. Streak-throated Fulvetta (Manipur Fulvetta) (Fulvetta manipurensis)
3. Brown-throated Fulvetta (Ludlow's Fulvetta)(Fulvetta ludlowi)
4. Yellow-throated Fulvetta (Schoeniparus cinereus)
