Calm before the storm. I was in Da Nang, Vietnam, two days before Typhoon Kalmaegi was scheduled to enter into Vietnam.

Although Da Nang wasn't directly in the typhoon's path, as the typhoon was going through central Vietnam and then on to Thailand, the winds were no joke. The entire night, we could hear the howling winds slamming at the hotel windows.

Quite an experience. 😅

Inside the main temple of the Angkor Wat complex. Angkor was the capital of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries.

The city was eventually sacked and was abandoned in a way, although fragmented populations in villages continued to live here. Contrary to popular narratives, the city and the temple complexes weren't completely abandoned or forgotten in the forests.

Yes there were no large scale renovations or refurbishment because of a lack of resources but the Buddhists monks and locals still kept the temples active. Some minor and smaller temples though we're abandoned.

From the main tower of the Angkor Wat temple. It's fascinating that such a stunning price of architecture was lying in the forests of Cambodia unattended and abandoned.

It's probably one of the oldest temples in the world with amazing stone carvings, idols and impressive feats of civil engineering, like the moat which surrounds the complex, which was dug without the help of modern machines.

Wander into one of the many karst caves inside the limestone mountains of Ha Long Bay outside of Hanoi, Vietnam.

We took a small boat from the marina and went inside the mountain, literally.

Local legend says that a mother dragon and her children spit out jewels and jade which fell into the bay and created the mountains.

The beautiful Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. Naturally formed due to millions of years of techtonic activities and erosion. Or if you want a cooler story, then a mother dragon and her children spit out jewels and jade which created the many limestone islands in the bay. 🐲🐲🐉

Carvings on the walls of the Angkor Wat. One of the largest Vishnu, and later Buddhist temple in the world. The level of detail and accuracy in these is simply mind boggling. Especially considering that they were done entirely by hand with modern machines or softwares.
