SANGEETA’s life stands out not just for how high she has climbed, but for the depth from which she has risen. From a childhood in the slums of Nagpur, she has gone on to become not just the first women

Leading student’s rallies, airing slogans, organizing the students, get elected president of the student’s council of LAD College, Nagpur were the highlights of her college days. After graduation, with her mother’s encouragement, she became a photojournalist, proudly, the first woman in Nagpur to be one. Married to a prominent social worker, Jammu Anand she has retained her maiden surname. SANGEETA began her photographic career as a free lance photojournalist with a Nikon Camera. She got her first break with a local evening daily, “Rashtradoot”. Soon her photographs started appearing in the Telegraph, Times of India, The Hitavada, Maya, Janvad and many more. Then came her induction into the national daily “The Indian Express”, Nagpur. Within a very short span of 5 years she could carve a place amongst the prominent photojournalists of the region. SANGEETA as a photojournalist, she is always where the action is even if it means scrambling over high walls, breaking a police cordon or getting into a fight with authorities that the men may shy away from. Not surprisingly, she was able to capture on film the sudden and shocking deaths of “113- Gowari men and women” in a police lathi charge. Her photographs of this grim tragedy were used by the “London Times” and “The London Independent”. SANGEETA has to say a lot other than her photography and has won many awards and accolades. Even when the management of the “The Indian Express”, Nagpur decided suspending the publication of Nagpur edition of which Sangeeta was a photojournalist, it neither deterred nor shook Sangeeta from her commitment to photography. She determined to continue the profession by launching her own photography services called “PRATIBIMB COMMUNICATIONS”. As if not satisfied by her professional achievements, she went on to conduct practical photography classes for amateur photographers of the city since 2004.
