I had begun shooting the orcales of Kerala ,called Velichapadu in Malayalam somewhere in the begining of this year and created a photo story on the festivals involving the oracles.
The oracles enter into a trance while performing the rituals and talk on behalf of the god , blessing them and giving advice to the village folk.
These are people who are believed to be the messenger of god, by the people of Kerala.
Back in the days they held a respectable position in the society and were revered by the people.
Now this culture is on a decline owing to the increase in demand for a stable white collar jobs among the youth.
This photo story is a testament to the dying culture of the oracles of Kerala.
(Warning:Contains images showing violence and blood.)

These are some images I made in the hope of capturing the spirit and energy of a village that I hold close to my heart. The people and places of this village gives me a feeling of nostalgia owing to the fact that it is my mother's native place.
The people here are simple and naive. They have simple needs and seem to be happy and content in their own simple lives.

A series of images captured in an Old age home in Fort Cochin,Kerala.
This is an old age home specially for elderly women who want to live peacefully. Many of them complain about their lives, which is mostly spent reading the bible, attending mass and seeking emotional refuge in their gods.
Some of the mothers were brought here following disputes with their daughter-in-laws, while others lived here waiting for their sons/daughters abroad to come collect them after settling there. Some of the mothers here have no children or spouse and hence decided to come live here.
Whatever their reasons, the mothers here live together peacefully ,helping each other, supporting each other and sometimes fighting each other like small girls.
The nuns also do a wonderfull work extending their love and support to the mothers here.
They always love it when a visitor comes because they have a lot to share with you and all they want is someone to lend them ears.

The Aranmula Boat Race the oldest river boat fiesta in Kerala, the south western State of India is held during Onam (August–September). It takes place at Aranmula, near a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and Arjuna. The snake boats move in pairs to the rhythm of full-throated singing and shouting watched by an exciting crowd

I had been to my mom's native, Kadampuzha here in Kerala and this was at the time when the paddy fields are kept flooded just before sowing the seeds.
As I was walking past the fields in the evening light I saw the sun go down between the clouds and this was being beautifully reflected on the water in the inundated farms.
This is one of the my favourite shots from a series I did on the people who live in the village and the beautiful landscapes of the village. It is an ongoing series and more images will come soon.

Saw this pupa wet from the morning rain and decided to try reverse macro on it. The details of the natural carvings and raindrops are what I love about the pupa.
PS- It's the same pupa I had tried shooting at night against the bokeh oh the streetlights.

This is how the cityscape of Cochin looks at night from The Goshree bridge. One can see the Marine drive on the left along with the new high rise apartments that have come up in recent times.
This is the view of Cochin that comes into my mind as this skyline has become the face of Cochin.
Kochi was an important spice trading centre from the 14th century and hence it's name-The Queen of Arabian sea.

I saw this beautiful golden pupa hanging from the stem of a plant in my home and I just had to take it's photo. I remember reading somewhere in school that this is one of the stages in the life of a butterfly when they are encased in a chrysalis and undergoing metamorphosis.
It reminded me of the various stages we humans have in our life, from being a toddler to a teenager to an adult to old age and finally death.
I saw a beautiful resonance in all our life forms on this planet.

One of my favourite photos from the album.
