P U N E U N I V E R S I T Y...(Main Building)
Pune is known as the Oxford of the East. The city has a tradition of wide varietyof education in various fields ranging from medical to engineering and arts to computers. It has proved one of best centres in Asia for excellence in education over a few decades. Amongst the several educational institutions in Pune, the lead role, however, goes to the University of Pune. The lush green 411-acres university campus is located on the famous historie Ganeshkhind Road, on the land associated to the freedom fighters such as Vinayak Chapekar as well as the balleground for battle of Khadki.
The main building, built in the year 1871 and
designed by Architect James Trubshave, was the
residence of Sir H. Bartle Frere, the Governer of
Bombay from 1862 to 1867, This Italian-Gothic
style building with its 100-ft. high tower and stylised
terraced garden, is one of the architectural Landmarks in the City

The White Breasted/Throated KINGFISHER (Halcyon Smyrnensis)

This bird is a resident over much of its range, although some populations may make short distance movements. It can often be found well away from water where it feeds on a wide range of prey that includes small reptiles, amphibians, crabs, small rodents and even birds. During the breeding season they call loudly in the mornings from prominent perches including the tops of buildings in urban areas or on wires.

The English of White-throated was introduced since the range is large and geographic adjectives would make the name too restrictive, while the older name of White-breasted would not describe the eastern race which has only the throat white.
