Best thing about photography in big cities? Lots of different architectural styles and the obligatory cranes. Sad to see so many old and beautiful buildings being overshadowed by ever increasing tower blocks. Still at least the skies were blue - briefly!

Not often you get this on the London Underground, no people in sight. Except when you're on one of the excellent Hidden London tours run by TfL. This is one of the escalators at the closed Jubilee Line station at Charing Cross. Fantastic way to spend a Sunday morning and some unique views and insights. There's more to come!

I've got my eye on you. A different view of the London Eye taken from across the Thames. Normally there's buildings in the way when taking a long shot but courtesy of the trees at Somerset House we managed to get a rural landscape of this London landmark.

London city skyline at dusk - wonderful. 15 floors up - don't look down!

Don't worry your screen isn't cracked - it's just a dandelion seed caught in a web with some gorgeous refracted sun rays just setting off a rainbow of colours. Another test shot from the new macro lens - really opening up a different view of things.

We usually like some clouds with our pictures just to give a bit of interest and contrast but sometimes clear blue skies just hit the spot especially near water.

Went out for a test run with the macro lens today, bought courtesy of my retirement gift from my former work colleagues. Perfect weather - a sunny Bank Holiday Sunday - and some obliging local fauna. This is quite a wide shot - got some proper 'macro' shots too, but just love the colours on this, not bad for a starter. Never 100% sure on plant species - we think it's buttercups and cow parsley?
