ভালোবাসার ক্ষেত্রে আমরা মানুষগুলো না, চরম স্বার্থপরতা দেখাই। যাকে আমরা ভালোবাসি, তার থেকে ভালোবাসা কামনা করি। যার জন্য আমরা অনুভূতি আর আবেগ ঢালি, তার কাছেও আমরা ঠিক একই রকম প্রত্যাশা করি।

এই যে প্রত্যাশা আর কামনার ব্যাপারটা, আমাদের প্রচন্ড কষ্ট দেয়, হতাশ করে! আমরা কাউকে ভালোবাসি বিনিময় আশা করে। নিঃস্বার্থ ভালোবাসা বলে কিছু হয় না পৃথিবীতে। যাকে ভালোবাসা যায়, তার কাছে প্রত্যাশা থাকে, তাকে পাওয়ার আকাঙ্খা থাকে।

ভালোবাসার ক্ষেত্রে আমাদের এই ঠুনকো চাওয়া-পাওয়াগুলোই আমাদের দুঃখের কারণ হয়। পৃথিবীতে কোনো মানুষই কখনোই কাউকে সমপরিমাণ কিংবা সমানুপাতিক হারে ভালোবাসতে পারে না। আর এই ভালোবাসতে না পারা কিংবা ভালোবাসা না পাওয়ার ব্যাপারটা মানুষকে অনেক ব্যথিত করে! কেন যেন মানতে পারে না।
