“বাঙালির বারো মাসে তেরো পার্বণ ”... sounds familiar, right? Yes, we Bengalis do celebrate every aspect of our lives throughout the year, not just our own culture but also the huge range of different cultures that the world celebrates. But somehow, ঘরের মেয়ে ঘরে এলে,আমরা একটু বেশিই আনন্দে আত্নহারা হয়ে উঠি; we truly lose ourselves in extreme joy.
But, how long does that happiness rest? Five days seem to pass with the blink of eyes, and when I open my eyes it's already “ বিজয়া দশমী ” and I have my eyes filled with tears. It's not just because the joyous moments have come to a standstill, but also when I watch the idol being immersed into the rippling waves of Barak river, my heart cries aloud. And when the next morning arrives , I, with a smiling face, wish everyone "শুভ বিজয়া,আসছে বছর আবার হবে।"
This is a year-long wait... We all keep waiting for our Uma— for our মা দূর্গা।
