Srinagar, July 09, 2026:

In its sustained and relentless crackdown against the menace of drug trafficking and the infrastructure supporting the illegal narcotics trade, *Srinagar Police* participated in a comprehensive drug disposal drive under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The drug disposal exercise was conducted at IGC Lassipora, where seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances connected with NDPS cases registered in District Srinagar were destroyed under scientificand legal procedures.
The entire process was carried out by the Drug Disposal Committee in strict compliance with the provisions of the NDPS Act and other prescribed legal procedures, ensuring complete transparency, accountability, and environmental safety.

During the drug disposal drive, the following narcotic substances were destroyed:

โ— 1.650 kg of Poppy Straw
โ— 113.646 kg of G***a
โ— 2.133 kg of Charas
โ— 881.52 grams of He**in
โ— 28 bottles (10 ml each) of Codeine Phosphate and 01 bottle (1940 ml)
โ— 12,859 Psychotropic tablets and substantial quality of Psychotropic capsules

The drug disposal was carried out in the presence of senior Police Officers and members of the Drug Disposal Committee, including SP Headquarters Srinagar, DySP DAR, DySP CID (CI), Public Prosecutor, NDPS Court Srinagar, representatives from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Executive Magistrate, Legal Metrology Department, J&K Pollution Control Board, and other officers of District Police Srinagar.

The initiative reflects the unwavering resolve of the Jammu & Kashmir Police to eliminate the menace of drug abuse, dismantle narcotics trafficking networks, and ensure that seized contraband is disposed of in a lawful, transparent, and time-bound manner. Such measures not only prevent the recirculation of narcotic substances but also reinforce public confidence in the criminal justice system.

Srinagar Police remains steadfast in its mission to make the district drug-free and will continue to take stringent legal action against individuals and organised networks involved in drug peddling and trafficking.

Srinagar, July 09, 2026:

In a major crackdown on the financial infrastructure of narcotics trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Srinagar Police have attached two immovable properties worth *approximately โ‚น1.05 crore* belonging to two notorious drug peddlers. The action was carried out by Police Station Rainawari under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, reaffirming the commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police to dismantle the drug network by targeting assets acquired through illicit narcotics trade.

The attached properties belong to:

1. Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, S/o Late Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, R/o Tujgari Mohalla, Nowhatta.

An immovable property comprising a three-storeyed residential house constructed on 05 marlas of land situated at Tujgari Mohalla, Srinagar, with an estimated market value of approximately โ‚น65 lakh, has been attached in connection with FIR No. 59/2019 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act of Police Station Rainawari.

The accused is also involved in FIR No. 11/2018 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act and FIR No. 41/2021 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act and 48 Excise Act registered at Police Station Nowhatta.

2. Bilal Ahmad Kand, S/o Ghulam Hyder Kand, R/o Kand Mohalla, Dal, Rainawari.

An immovable property comprising 05 marlas of land along with a single-storeyed temporary structure erected thereon at Kand Mohalla, Rainawari, having an estimated value of approximately โ‚น40 lakh, has been attached in connection with FIR No. 36/2022 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act of Police Station Rainawari.

Both properties have been attached under the provisions of Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after being identified as illegally acquired assets generated through proceeds of narcotics trafficking and drug peddling.

By targeting the economic backbone of drug traffickers, Srinagar Police are sending a strong message that crime will not pay and that illegally acquired assets will be traced and confiscated in accordance with the law.

Srinagar Police remain steadfast in their resolve to eradicate the menace of drugs from society and appeal to the public to continue supporting the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan by sharing any information related to drug trafficking or narcotics-related activities. The identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.

Srinagar, July 05, 2026:

Srinagar Police organised a dignified farewell ceremony at the District Police Lines (DPL), Srinagar, to honour six Police personnel on their superannuation, recognising their long, dedicated, and exemplary service to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The retiring personnel included SI Abdul Aziz Wagay, SI Reyaz Ahmad Rather, SI Mohammed Saleem Pala, ASI Kulwant Singh, ASI Bashir Ahmad Batloo, and SgCt Riyaz Ahmad Khan. During their distinguished careers, they served the department with sincerity, professionalism, discipline, and unwavering commitment, making significant contributions towards maintaining public safety, law and order, and ensuring peace in the region.

On the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, IPS, paid rich tributes to the retiring officers/officials and expressed deep appreciation for their invaluable contributions to the police force. He commended their integrity, dedication, and years of selfless service, stating that their commitment and experience would continue to inspire younger generations of police personnel.

SSP Srinagar extended his heartfelt wishes to the retirees and their families, praying for their good health, happiness, and a fulfilling post-retirement life. He also assured them that they would always remain valued members of the Srinagar Police family.

The ceremony was attended by the Zonal SsPs, DySP Headquarters, DySP DAR, and other senior officers and officials of Srinagar Police, who joined in expressing their gratitude and admiration for the retiring personnel.

As a mark of appreciation and recognition, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to each retiree by SSP Srinagar in acknowledgement of their distinguished service, professionalism, and outstanding contributions to the department.

The farewell ceremony concluded on an emotional and heartwarming note, reflecting the strong bond of camaraderie, mutual respect, and esprit de corps that characterises the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Srinagar Police wishes all the retirees a peaceful, prosperous, healthy, and rewarding new chapter in their lives.

Srinagar Police continues to extend dedicated assistance and support to Pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026, ensuring their safe, secure, and smooth passage through the district.

Comprehensive security, traffic, and facilitation arrangements have been put in place in close coordination with all stakeholder agencies. Police personnel deployed along the Yatra route are providing round-the-clock assistance by regulating traffic, facilitating medical aid, guiding pilgrims, assisting senior citizens, women and children, and responding promptly to any emergency.

Srinagar Police welcomed the devotees undertaking the sacred Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 (SANJY-2026) at the Transit Yatra Camp, Srinagar.

Srinagar Police has made elaborate security and traffic arrangements in close coordination with all stakeholder agencies to ensure smooth and safe facilitation to the Yatris. Comprehensive deployment plans have been put in place across the city, particularly along the designated Yatra routes, transit camps, accommodation centres, and other strategic locations. Special emphasis has been laid on maintaining law and order, ensuring uninterrupted movement of Yatra convoys, and providing prompt assistance whenever required.

Srinagar Police has also established Assistance Booths, Help Desks, and Emergency Response Teams at strategic locations to provide immediate support to pilgrims.
Police Personnel have been instructed to extend courteous, professional, and prompt assistance to every Yatri throughout their stay and transit in Srinagar.

In addition to security arrangements, special communication mechanisms have been established to provide timely information regarding traffic advisories, weather-related updates, emergency services, and other important announcements. Pilgrims are encouraged to rely only on official communications issued by the Administration and Police.

Pilgrims are advised to strictly adhere to the instructions issued by security personnel and Yatra authorities, to travel only in authorised convoys, carry valid identification documents, avoid sharing unverified information or rumours, and immediately report any suspicious activity, unattended object, or emergency to the nearest Police personnel or through the emergency helpline.

Srinagar, June 30, 2026:

As part of the preparations for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, Srinagar Police today conducted a comprehensive Multi-Agency Mock Drill at Transit Yatri Camp, Panthachowk, in coordination with all stakeholder departments to assess emergency preparedness and strengthen response mechanisms.

The exercise was aimed at evaluating operational readiness, inter-agency coordination, communication systems and the effectiveness of emergency response during critical situations.

The Mock Drill witnessed active participation from J&K Police, CAPFs, Traffic Police, Security Wing, Fire & Emergency Services, Health Department, SDRF, Civil Administration, Ambulance Services and other stakeholder agencies.

Prior to the exercise, all participating agencies were briefed in detail on their respective roles and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by the designated Police officers. Particular emphasis was laid on response time, communication flow, coordinated action and adherence to established emergency protocols.

The drill simulated multiple emergency scenarios, including Road Traffic Accidents, Fidayeen attack, Law & Order contingencies, accidental injuries, evacuation, rescue operations and medical emergencies, enabling all participating agencies to validate their preparedness and coordinated response under realistic conditions.

As part of the preparedness measures, arrangements relating to food, shelter and medical assistance for pilgrims have also been streamlined through coordinated efforts of the Civil Administration, CAPD, Revenue and Health Departments under the unified command of the Joint Police Control Room (Joint-PCR).

Following the exercise, a detailed debriefing session was conducted with all stakeholders to identify operational gaps, evaluate response mechanisms and further refine the Emergency Response Plan and SOPs.

The Mock Drill demonstrated the effectiveness of the existing emergency response framework while providing valuable inputs for further strengthening preparedness ahead of the Yatra.

In a proactive move to ensure robust emergency preparedness during the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2026, Srinagar Police conducted a large-scale Mock Drill in collaboration with multiple key agencies at various strategic locations along the Yatra route in Parimpora and Maloora areas of Srinagar.

The exercise was aimed to evaluate operational readiness, inter-agency coordination, and communication mechanisms in the event of critical incidents.

The main objectives of the Mock Drill were :
โ— To assess emergency response procedures and protocols.

โ— To evaluate coordination among agencies including J&K Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Fire and Emergency Services, Ambulance Services, Health Department, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Traffic Department and Civil Administration.

โ— To test the effectiveness of communication systems and rescue operations.

โ— To ensure real-time response monitoring and procedural adherence.

Before the drill commenced, all the participating agencies were thoroughly briefed on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by J&K Police . Emphasis was laid on real-time monitoring of response times, communication flow, and coordinated action.

In anticipation of any exigency, arrangements for food, shelter, and medical assistance have been streamlined through coordinated efforts by the CAPD, Revenue, and Health Departments, under the unified command of the Joint Police Control Room (Joint-PCR).

The drill was conducted across strategic locations, simulating various emergency scenarios like Vehicle-borne IED, Stand-off Fire, Road Traffic Accidents, Fidayeen attack, L&O etc.

Following the exercise, detailed debriefing sessions were held with all stakeholders to identify operational gaps and refine the existing Emergency Response Plan.

The drill not only demonstrated the strengths of emergency response framework of the District but also provided actionable insights into areas requiring improvement.
