On the direction of Shri Shiv Kumar sharma State President INTUC Jammu and Kashmir Er. Naveed Ashraf Kichloo met with Dr. G. Sanjeeva Reddy at the Head Office of INTUC, New Delhi, and held a detailed discussion regarding the issues being faced by the people and workers of Kishtwar in various hydro power projects.
During the meeting, serious concerns were raised about the condition of local workers engaged in the power projects of Kishtwar. It was highlighted that local employees are not being provided proper accommodation, healthcare facilities, and safety measures at project sites. It was further stated that most local youth are being forced to work only on a contractor basis, while land losers and project-affected families are still deprived of permanent employment opportunities.
The discussion also focused on the basic problems of water and electricity in Kishtwar. It was stated that the people of Kishtwar sacrificed their land, resources, and environment in the hope of development and prosperity for the region. However, despite hosting major power projects, the people of Kishtwar continue to suffer due to lack of basic facilities and repeated natural disasters.
It was pointed out that water filtration plants exist near the head offices of NHPC Limited and Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited, but the common people are still being forced to consume contaminated and unsafe drinking water.
The people of Kishtwar have demanded that modern filtration plants be upgraded to ensure the supply of clean drinking water, the education sector be strengthened, and the healthcare infrastructure of the district be improved. The need for better public welfare measures and fair benefits for project-affected communities was also strongly emphasized.
Dr. G. Sanjeeva Reddy assured that INTUC will continue to raise the genuine concerns of the people and workers of Kishtwar at every appropriate platform and will fight for the rights, dignity, and welfare of local residents and workers associated with these projects.
