Chilling and Beaching!
In the last ‘Mann ki Baat’, PM’s monthly address to the nation, he urged the people to adopt more dogs of Indian breeds.
This is an important issue in India. People connect Indian breeds immediately with stray dogs. Though, stray dogs are great pets, there are a considerable number of different dogs that are purely Indian breeds (a simple google search will help you with this).
Also, most western breeds specially the ones who are built for cold climates, for example, Siberian Huskies, Saint Bernard, Shih Tzu, struggle in Indian tropical climate. I have personally seen owners putting up air conditioners that are switched on 24*7 just to keep the dog cold. That’s great by the way but it’s not practical for a common household.
Stray dogs, as I have mentioned, are great pets. They are vigilant, brave and can survive in almost any home with minimum caring. They don’t need special dog food, they can eat it but don’t need it (that rhymed ;). They are super easy to find. Even if you don’t bring them in your house, take care of the dog in your area or lane or anywhere you can find. Feed them, spend some time with them and they will be the happiest!
Indian dogs need us and we need them.

An idol maker from Pune, Maharashtra, colouring the grand idol of Lord Ganesha a fortnight before Ganesh Chaturthi festival starts.
This year, most of these idol makers have disappeared (returned to their native). Many who were still present, have taken huge losses upon themselves due to the pandemic.

While taking this picture, I waited there, just watching the father and son. The father was showing his son videos on You Tube and explaining him how to search and watch different videos on the platform.
I wanted to go and talk to them, as I generally do, but I didn’t.
Somehow I didn’t want to spoil their moment. They were so involved in their conversation that they hardly noticed me taking pictures. They didn’t know what was happening around them, they didn’t want to know what was happening around them and right there, in that moment, I realised that on, one of the busiest sidewalks of the city, without any care in the world these two are having the time of their lives. He wasn’t handicapped or helpless anymore, just a father teaching his son something new. That’s happiness, I guess.
Without being gold and diamonds of the society, they still shine.
In less than 25 mins, I moved on from there a happy man myself.

Sacred Fires. Ganga Aarti.
These images teleport me to my hometown, Kashi, whenever I come across them.
This daily ritual is closely associated with hundreds of lives in Banaras, and not just the priests but common people. Everyday in the morning and evening they make sure to experience it, most of them with their families.
To anyone, from Kashi, this aarti is more than just a prayer to the river Ganga. It’s woven in the thread of their existence. It’s not about which god you bow down to or if you believe in one in the first place, the connection goes much beyond that. You have to experience this once to understand it.
