Stood up over a mountain to a view nearly after five months, and though reaching to faraway places still seems like a distant dream, traveling around locally is the least that can be done to suffice the travel bug.
Having said that, I took a day trip a little away from my city to the heritage site of Champaner, which is surrounded by a mountain range and houses plenty of beautiful and ornate heritage structures.
One such is the Saat Kaman or the seven arches which was built for defence purposes as it sits up on the hill providing a panoramic view of the planes below that made it ideal for the guards to watch over activities around in the area.
Though the site is in ruins now, one can stand at its edge and just fathom its grandeur during its golden ages.

Dreaming of far fetched places, wanting to conquer the highest mountains and always thinking of escaping the mundane city life - how often do we look around us, at the place we are in, the place we have always been in?
Around two years back, when I was just done with my college, preparing a portfolio for a job, I finally had weekends to myself. One such Sunday morning me and my friends signed up for a heritage tour around our neighbourhood, sounds weird right - what was the heritage around us that we were missing. Nevertheless, when we actually went through the heritage structures that this group of people had organised for us to see, all of us exclaimed at each other - this has always been here, how come we never came across it!
One such structure was this Vivekananda Memorial, that lies right on the main road, amidst the modern commercial world of buildings.
When Swami Vivekananda travelled to the state of Baroda in 1892, he stayed as a guest of the then Diwan of Baroda in this bungalow that was called the Dilaram Bungalow. He discussed about the educational system of the state here and returned very impressed with the Gaekwads who ruled baroda at the time. In 2005, an official branch of Ramakrishna Math and mission started functioning here.
Interesting isn’t it, discovering a building that has always been there, but we never had the time and curiosity to stop by. Guess the heritage walk had some life lessons to teach too.
From the heritage walk organised by in 2018.
