One of 2025's most significant moments.

What kind of year was 2025?
Looking back, I realise how many important events took place, both personally and professionally, including both good and difficult times.

The beginning of 2025 saw my first travel to India, something I had been waiting for for years. Upon my return, it emerged my father was ill, which led to his passing a few months later. It all happened incredibly fast, leaving us almost no time to process it.

In , I spent several days in , where I had the opportunity to observe the relationship that Indians (Hindus in this case) have with the end of life.
Witnessing and understanding how, for them, the physical body is just a shell to let go of once the soul that inhabited it has left, helped me to put things into a different perspective when I had to let go of my father.

In the photo, a priest silently attends the cremation of two bodies by the , the most sacred river for Hindus. Varanasi, February 2025.

I don't think it's one of the year's most "beautiful" photos, but on a personal level, it's for sure among the most meaningful ones.

It's great to see online my first contribution to .

A photo was also included among AP's 2025 most significant images to illustrate the effects of on life on our planet.

The story, developed in , comes from a long-term project that shows how climate change is exacerbating pre-existing tensions between , especially , and farmers.

A huge thank you to for helping me to shape this story, for her time and tremendous support, and for strongly advocating for the inclusion of this photo into the 2025 agency's selection.

(RSI), the Italian-Swiss television, has finally made available online part of what I witnessed.
I will never say thank you enough to all the people I met in the development of this work who granted me the privilege of telling about their daily challenges.

The work is part of a long-term that explores, in different countries, how and increasing urbanisation are threatening the existence of the world's last nomadic peoples, with a serious risk to human cultural and social heritage.
In the 21st century, nomadism faces significant challenges, primarily due to climate change and increasing urbanisation. Desertification, which now affects more than 40% of the Earth’s land surface, and rising drought levels threaten the survival of over 200 million people who maintain nomadic lifestyles. Ancient communities, guardians of millennia-old traditions, are experiencing a drastic reduction in available pastures and water resources. Policies promoting forced sedentariation jeopardise their cultural identity, resulting in an irreparable loss of human cultural heritage. Through stories of resistance and transformation, this work presents new perspectives on the profound interconnections between environmental crises, sustainability, and cultural diversity, giving a voice to often marginalised communities.

I've recently embarked on a big new journey, and I can't imagine where it will take me.
For now, the only thing I know is how deeply I feel about this project on and around the in the 21st century.

I find that the image I decided to share here below from this early stage conveys well the project's mood.
