*The rustling of the Coconut tree*
The rustling of the coconut tree
In the hot summer afternoons
Just outside my window,
Takes me down the memory lane
Where I can see -
My parents and me with siblings
Lazing in adjacent rooms,
During summer afternoons
When schools had holidays,
And I could hear outside
The gentle waving sounds,
Giving quite a feeling of tranqulity
For it was quiet inside the room
But outside, the garden trees
Rustled with the breeze,
And sent a whiff of cooling air
On and off, on and off
Lulling me into a comfortable sleep....
Aha, the childhood days of then,
Such precious memories;
I thank you God for this Coconut tree,
In the neighbour's yard outside,
That cheers me just like those I knew
With the rustling of its leaves.....
