Would you like to know more about how to tell if this corn is ready for harvest, or perhaps more about the different varieties of maize?
While it looks a bit like some varieties of sorghum or large wild grasses, the specific branching pattern of that central tassel and the width of the dried leaves are hallmarks of Corn.
* The Tassel: The curved, feathery structure in the center foreground is the male inflorescence (the “tassel”’) of the corn plant. This is where pollen is produced.
* The Foliage: The broad, withered brown leaves in the background are typical of corn stalks at the end of the growing season or after a harvest.
* Seasonality: The dark, dried-out appearance suggests the crop has reached physiological maturity (senescence) and is ready for harvest, or it has been left in the field during late autumn or winter.
