Throwback from like a week ago, as we were running them PSD procedures with the guys ⚔️

Couple of days after this, all hell broke loose and a situation best described as a civil war erupted.

When it comes to security work, I personally learned many lessons as the reality of this serious armed conflict was nothing like I could’ve imagined.

I’ve had couple of days to debrief all that happened in Baghdad and now it’s time to shift focus on the next task, anti-poaching, Africa.

This next trip is highly significant, as I get to wrap up something I’ve been working on for the past 8 years.

Overall, even though the intensity of the projects is quite overwhelming at the moment, I feel like I’ve reached something of a peace in my life, things move like they should, at their own pace.

For the people that support me, I cannot thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to live my irregular, not much routined life.

Finally, I’m on my way back to Finland.

I can honesty say that my last 24h in Baghdad were intense and mentally exhausting. I feel bad for my brothers who have to endure the instability all day, every day. They take like it’s normal, but still, for me as a person who comes from a country where all is good, I do feel strong empathy towards them. Stay strong my friends. We will work together again, that is for sure.

Need to get this out of me: this past month opened my eyes like nothing before, life is short, life is fragile and everything is not going to be okay at all times. Life promises nothing and suffering is reality for many souls even if one gets to live in a bubble of love and attention. I know I haven’t taken my life for granted even before Baghdad, but now I value life with more awakened eyes. More than before, I feel the urge to give back and stay in the fight for the good things in life.

Now, I need to start preparing for my next trip, as I’ve an Anti-Poaching related project in Africa.

𝙱𝙰𝙶𝙷𝙳𝙰𝙳 🇮🇶

I haven’t been posting anything for a month as I was off comms in Baghdad, Iraq.

The opportunity to work as a private security contractor in a location such as Baghdad was something I looked for a long time. Thanks to my brothers for the trust.

This past month has taught me a lot about the security industry in general, but also about Iraq's culture, history and current political situation. The moment I came here, massive demonstrations had started and now it has gotten more intense. An IED explosion happened early morning couple of days ago (targeted an armored diplomatic convoy at Baghdad airport road) and that unfortunately does not promise any improvement for this sensitive situation.

On the lighter side, I learned that it is possible to actually function as a human being at +52 celsius, which surely wasn’t what I thought when I felt the air the first time.

Most importantly, I gained lifelong brothers, to whom I want to say thank you, shukran. Stay safe guys, especially PSD team 🏴‍☠️
