Last April at Gígjagjá, better known as Yoda Cave.

The cave opening faces south, so to capture the Northern Lights through it, the aurora activity needs to be strong enough to push far into the southern sky—and that night, it certainly was.

A perfect late-season aurora show and a night I won’t forget.

What an incredible Northern Lights hunt last night.
We started our hunt at 22:00 near the Þingvellir area, and the aurora show had already begun before the sky was even fully dark.

By around 23:00, the sky exploded with activity, with different colors dancing overhead. I also had the pleasure of meeting this beautiful family from Boston and sharing this unforgettable night with them.
Nights like this are exactly why I never get tired of chasing the aurora in Iceland.

There’s always something new waiting to be discovered in Iceland.

Exploring a newly discovered ice cave with my good friend Reynir H E A D I N G - N O R T H is always an incredible experience. Together, we’re constantly exploring the glaciers, searching for new formations and seeing how the ice changes from season to season.

Every tunnel, formation, and shade of blue has been shaped naturally by the glacier—and next year, it could all be completely different.

Ice cave season by Vatnajökull starts October 1. We’re ready for another season of adventure.
