Hengifoss. One of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland and the cliffs around it are the reason to make the hike. Those horizontal bands in the rock are ancient lava flows separated by red clay layers – millions of years of eruptions stacked on top of each other. The waterfall is almost secondary once you start looking at the geology.

This one doesn’t have an official name. We just gave it one – Big Red. Central highlands, shot straight down from the drone while low clouds kept moving through – covering it, revealing it, covering it again. The iron in the rock is what gives it that pattern. Iceland keeps finding new ways to look like another planet.

Kerlingarfjöll. Geothermal steam rising out of the highlands, rhyolite ridges in every direction. This place sits in the middle of Iceland’s interior and most people never make it out here. Flew the drone early before the wind picked up. Worth every kilometer of F-road to get there.
