The Edge - Yup. Can’t really go further than this. Even the land couldn’t be bothered to.

Having moved to the edge of the world, the end of the top of that edge is only a 3h hike from my house. And from there I can throw rocks at the bottom of the same edge. Or fly my drone and take panoramic selfies of me being really really really small. You probably can’t see me in there, even if you buy the largest version of this print. I dare you. Just to see the details

My book The Wild Magic of Iceland, containing this and a lot more, can be ordered through the link in my bio 🙌🏻

Someone was saying that my photo book was lacking in lush summery photos on the greener side of the spectrum. It’s true. Summer is too bright and everything happens too fast to shoot. There isn’t even time to empty memory cards or charge batteries.

But at least these photos are in there. And some are kinda green.

Eleven years ago I guided my first glacier tour here in Iceland, and for eleven years I’ve been watching this world change and melt away. There is something really special in photographing landscapes that will never look the same, or even exist again, while fighting the fear of them completely disappearing within our lifetime. That’s why I shoot ice. That’s why I guide people up here. To document and show peope, and really make them see and feel what we risk loosing.

Most of these compositions already fully melted years ago, and theres only the ground beneath them left. The pages of this book will last much longer.

Fagradalsfjall - A note from the fields: Today is my 10th time visiting the volcano. I’ve hiked over 200km just on site, shot 10 000 photos, melted my drone a little, met old friends I haven’t seen in years and found plenty new ones. It’s a volcano for the people. And it doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon.

As the volcano beneath the glacier starts waking up, its geothermalness melts the ice cap above it, creating some of the most extreme ice formations I have ever witnessed.

I have been waiting to send The Wild Magic of Iceland out into the world for years now. It would mean so much to finally see it in your hands. And thank you all for this! ✌🏻

Iceland is all about water. There’s water shooting up, a lot more water coming down, water blowing sideways, cold compressed blue water, hot water, really hot water, steam, fog, an insane number of clouds, powder, hail—as well as canyons, fjords, and mountains, all carved by water. And Icelandic tomatoes. Because they taste like water too.

It’s the sheer force of this water that makes this island so special. After all, almost nothing grows here, and the weather is usually horrible in comparison to anywhere else. But it’s different here—and that difference makes it more beautiful. More powerful. The naked landscape can’t hide any of it. This power is visible everywhere on this little rock in the ocean. You can see it all around you. You can feel it, too, if you get too close.

These are a few of the photos in my upcoming book, The Wild Magic of Iceland. Cutting it down from about 4 million photos to 256 pages was a merciless massacre, but what’s in there has really fought for a spot in the spotlight.

The Wild Magic of Iceland is now available to order through the link in my bio and will be arriving at homes across the world soooooooon
