Magical nights spent in cosy mountain huts, watching sunset and sunrise high in the alpine. My favourite part of summer and so looking forward to so many evenings deep in the mountains 🥹✨

Took my partner to Olpererhütte on Friday for the season opening and we lucked out with a full moon rising as the sun set. Sometimes the universe really wants to put on a show for you. Right place at the right time huh 🌝

As always with mountain huts – know the trail before you go, have appropriate gear, plenty of water, and take your rubbish with you 🫶

The golden light of Cape Town on film 🎞️

Visited a few times over the years and was always left absolutely speechless every single day about the sheer beauty of the landscape here. I have never seen a place with more intense, golden orange light. A land with a wild energy, one that I had not felt since leaving Australia. I guess because in many ways it really did remind me of home - the flora, the beaches, the laid back friendly people.

Or really, disappear into nature. Doesn’t have to be forever (I wish, sometimes). But it can even be for a few hours if that’s what you have time for. The forest, the mountains, the beach, the river. We belong in nature, we are nature. A safe space for your nervous system to rest, to feel energised, to feel alive.

The last of the summer swims by Lake Bled ☀️

(yeah, still posting from summer and never transitioning to Autumn or winter haha)

Some of my fondest memories from our Slovenia hiking trip was the days of relaxing around Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj after the trek. It’s one of those gorgeous places that definitely lives up to its reputation of beauty and didn’t feel too touristy - insanely blue clean water to swim in, golden sunlight all day, surrounded by gorgeous architecture.

Film scenes from an afternoon where we paddled out to Bled Island for a golden hour swim. The planning of this trip was awesome, finishing at the lakes was the reason we booked this itinerary and definitely paid off 🥰

Hot tip: if you just swim or take your own paddle boat and not the hired tourist ones you can be the last ones on Bled at sundown after everyone else is gone. We were lucky to have a local friend who had a blow up boat to paddle with us, but also met people who had just swam over hehe.

After days of rain I am so, so grateful we got 2 days of pure sunshine while visiting. Forever chasing those bright scenes.

Travel diaries: The deep blues of Greece on 35mm 🎞️

One of the things I have noticed over the years of travelling and photographing, is that I have mentally created colour associations between places and my memories. For me Greece was this deep blue, complimented with a sun drenched yellow and pale cactus green. Other places like Switzerland have a bright vibrant green, dotted with pale purple and blue. Australia in my mind is a deep lush green, alongside an intense burnt orange and sky blue. Tenerife was also a yellowy cactus green, mixed with pale orange and a deep ocean blue. Do you have colours associated with memories or places? Would be sooo interested to know 🥰

Memories from alpine huts 🏔️

I adore the network of mountain huts dotted throughout the alps, so many fond memories from hiking over the years. The crisp fresh air, snuggling into your sleeping bag after a long trek, whole bowls of coffee in the morning, plus of course the chat and laughter of your fellow hikers. They are very special places 💛

Already thinking of some multi day hikes next year. I feel I didn’t do enough this summer, spending more time by the sea than the mountains. Any multi day routes you recommend?

A mix of film and digital from separate trips through the Italian Dolomites, Austria, France and Switzerland over the years.
