—————————————Crosia (Calabrian: Crusìa) is a town and comune in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region of southern Italy.
In 2015 the fraction of Mirto Crosia won the Blue Flag of the Beaches.
🔎 History 🔍
Crusa was founded, according to tradition, in 1315 BC, by the companions of Aeneas. In fact, during his long journey to the mouth of the Tiber, he landed with his fleet in the rades of the Trajes (or Illias), different names of the River Triumph. His subjects, in an act of devotion to the Prince, the first name that was assigned to him was Kreusa, the name of Aeneas' wife (to which the ending ia must be added: in fact he will become Kreusia, then Krusia and Crusìa, to change definitively, after the Unification of Italy, to the current name of Crosia).
It reached its peak between the 10th and 8th centuries. When it was annexed to the territory of Crotone, it became an important border center, precisely because of its strategic position, for the control of the port of Ilias. He welcomed the Sibarites, who were defeated after the battle against Crotone. Destroyed by a strong earthquake in 379, it was rebuilt on the top of the hill.
The Triumph, which touches the hill, was the scene of two important and violent battles: in 510 BC, between Sibarites and Crotoniates, in Strange, and later between Goths and Byzantines, in Caliò. During the feudal period, Crosia was the dominion of 33 feudal lords, among which the most important were the Matteo, the Cariati and the Sambiase. Under the rule of the feudal lord Teodoro Mandatoriccio, Crosia became a very coveted duchy and fief, disputed among the most powerful houses of the Kingdom of Naples.
Of all Crosia's past remains only a few memories, or some finds found. Crusa has regained its importance as a result of the so-called Marian apparitions, which took place in the Church of Our Lady of Mercy that, since May 23, 1987, have attracted the attention of many pilgrims, theologians and scientists.

📍Scilla(Rc) Calabria,Italy🇮🇹

Scilla (Calabrian: U Scigghiu; Greek: Σκύλλα, romanized: Skýlla) is a town and comune in Calabria, Italy, administratively part of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria. It is the traditional site of the sea monster Scylla of Greek mythology.
The town, 22 kilometres (14 mi) from the city of Reggio, lies in front of the strait of Messina, and is composed of two parts: the downtown, where the town offices and the residence of the patron saint are situated, and Marina di Scilla, the beach-front, populated by tourists and thus heavily characterized by hotels and restaurants. Its beach is the first place north of Reggio Calabria where the waters are not cooled by the strait draughts.
Scilla's coastal district of Chianalea is included in the “The most beautiful villages in Italy”association of small Itan towns of historical interest list.
The Ruffo Castle, a fortress built by the Dukes of Calabria, overlooks the beach. On a seaward-facing terrace is Scilla Lighthouse, an important aid to ships entering the Strait of Messina from the north.

🔎 History 🔍
It is said that Tyrrhenian pirates were the first to settle this coastal area in 493 BC, but others claim it was already settled during the time of the Trojan Wars in the 12th century BC.
The town of Scilla has ancient origins that relate mainly to the period of the destruction of Troy and invokes the myths and legends of Ulysses with Scylla and Charybdis, of Homer and Dante Alighieri. The town's name derives from the mythological figure of Scylla, a young nymph who refused Glauco's love. He thus went to the sorceress Circe, who was in love with him, and asked her to help him win Scylla's heart. The offended sorceress poisoned the sea-pool where the nymph used to bathe, turning her into a horrific six dog-headed monster who…

Calanna (Kalanè in Greek-calabro) is an Italian town of 786 inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria in Calabria.

🔎 HISTORY 🔍

In ancient times it was one of the farmhouses of Reggio and, in medieval age, one of its hilly defensive systems.

Here in 1953 a necropolis was found excavated in a wall of conchiglifero limestone dating back to the Iron Age (the site, among the oldest in the province of Reggio, is dateable to the thirteenth - 7th centuries BC). These are 10 grotto and oven tombs, which contained overlapping burials and skeletons arranged in a fetal position.

On the probable remains of a Byzantine construction, the external route of an imposing defensive structure, which dominated the entire territory of the Gallic Valley and the Strait of Messina, was then expanded and rebuilt in the Norman age (uncertain period but dateable around 1200). Currently, there remains a long stretch of walls on the north slope (about 60 meters), and a whole series of wall remains scattered throughout the plain, at the base of which the town of Calanna, the administrative headquarters of the Municipality and the historic center, has developed.

Its strategic position makes Calanna an important defensive cornerstone, whose territory was subject over the various centuries to continuous invasions and changes of power. Capital of Barony, at the end of 1200 it was the Sanseverino Counts of Miletus, then the Ruffo Counts of Sinopoli. It passed to the Carafa until the end of the sixteenth century, then to the De Francesco and finally to the Ruffo of Scilla. It appears in the administrative system of General Championnet in 1799 under the name of Calandra, included in the Department of the Festival in the Canton of Roccella. In 1807 for the French law (the bonapartiste laws on the eversion of feudalism, and the administrative restructuring carried out by Gioacchino Murat) became the place of the Government of Catona, and in 1811 Autonomous Municipality .

In Prato S. Irene the remains of some inhabiteds of the Neolithic period (datable between the end of the seventh and the beginning of the third millennium BC. C.).

Classical age📌

First Greek settlers to settle in the area. It is reasonable to assume that in the magno-Greek period the Curinghese coast provided a convenient and useful maritime port between the inlets and therefore the communication routes to the interior, of the Amato and the Angitol halfway between the Greek cities of Hipponion (Vibo Valentia) and Temesa (Nocera T.).

With the fall of the Roman Empire, occupied by the Lombards, destroyed by the Gothic wars and devastated by natural events, Lacconia experienced a sharp decline, remaining unpopulated.

📍Dino’s island 🏝

Isola di Dino is a small island with an area of 50 hectares of greenery, which emerges from the northern Calabrian Tyrrhenian, right in front of the municipality of Praia a Mare, in front of Capo dell'Arena. The perimeter of the island is about 3 kilometers, all without beaches, so much so that the main attraction of the Dino Island excursions are its wonderful caves, the result of a millennial erosion of water and, in part, wind.
It owes its name to the Greek word ‘dina’ (storm), as the waters of the southern tip of the island were once a real danger to sailors during the storms. Between millenary caves, limestone cliffs and high cliffs that dive headlong into the sea, there are a few artifacts: among these stands out the Tower of the Island of Dino, located at the western tip (the Fronton), at a height of 73 meters above sea level. Of Norman origin and quadrangular shape, it was used as a sighting tower in the angioine and Bourbon era.

📍 Rossano Calabro (CS), Italy 🇮🇹

Rossano is a town and frazione of Corigliano-Rossano in the province of Cosenza, Calabria, southern Italy. The city is situated on an eminence c. three kilometres (1.9 mi) from the Gulf of Taranto. The town is known for its marble and alabaster quarries.
The town is the seat of a Catholic archbishop and has a notable cathedral and castle. Two popes have been born in the town, along with Nilus the Younger.

🔎 History 🔍

Roscianum was the original name of the town under the Roman Empire. In the second century AD, emperor Hadrian built or rebuilt a port here, which could accommodate up to 300 ships. It was mentioned in the Antonine itineraries, as one of the important fortresses of Calabria. The Goths of Alaric I and, in the following century, Totila, were unable to take it. The Rossanesi showed great attachment to the Byzantine Empire, whose local strategos had his seat here. The Rossano Gospels, a sixth century illuminated manuscript of great historical and artistic value, is a tangible relic of that period. The Saracens failed to conquer Rossano, while in 982 Otto II captured it temporarily from the Byzantines. Its Greek character was preserved long after its conquest by the Normans, as noted by its long retention of the Greek Rite over the Latin Rite. The city in fact maintained notable privileges under the subsequent Hohenstaufen and Angevine dominations, but subsequently decayed after the feudalization in 1417.

Rossano was the birthplace of Pope John VII and Antipope John XVI. Rossano was also the birthplace of Bartholomew the Younger and Nilus the Younger, who founded the Abbey of Grottaferrata, and whose "Life" is a valuable source of information about southern Italy in the tenth century.

⚡️The myth of the “Scilla” Nymph.🌬🌊

According to legend, Scilla was a young nymph who rejected the love of Glauco, a deity who lived in the depths of the sea. Glauco took revenge for the affront immediately turning the nymph into a horrible sea monster, half woman and half fish with six dog heads. Condemned to live this way, Scilla began to destroy all the ships of the sailors passing through the Strait of Messina.
The history of Scilla was described in the Odyssey, XII, 112 et seq. by Homer and the myth of Scilla relives in the tourist town of the same name, which houses the Castle of the Ruffo Princes of Calabria which is located overlooking the sea and dominates the Strait of Messina.

📍Palazzolo Acreide(Sc), Italy 🇮🇹

Palazzolo Acreide (Sicilian: Palazzolu, in the local dialect: Palazzuolu) is a town and comune in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily (southern Italy). It is 43 kilometres (27 mi) from the city of Syracuse in the Hyblean Mountains.

🔎 History🔍
The area around Palazzolo Acreide has been inhabited since ancient times. In the 10th-11th centuries BC, the Sicels lived here in small villages. The town occupies the site of the ancient Akrai (Latin Acrae), founded by Syracuse around 664 BC. The city was important as it controlled the paths of communication between the towns on the southern coast of the island. According to Thucydides, the Syracusans defeated the Athenians here in 413 BC.
In the treaty between the Romans and Hiero II of Syracuse in 263 BC it was assigned to the latter. After the Roman conquest, it became a civitas stipendiaria, and was still prospering in the course of the early Christian age.
The old city was probably destroyed by the Arabs, in the first half of the 9th century. The new city was built around a Norman castle, which no longer exists.

Mysterious Place 🔮

The Treasure of Alaric💎⚱️

Legend has it that in the distant 410 A.D. King Alaric I, together with his army of the Goths, after the sack of Rome, moved to southern Italy with the aim of crossing the Strait and pushing towards Africa. When he arrived at the gates of the city of Cosenza, however, he was attacked by malaria, which ended his life.
According to Visigothic custom, Alaric was buried in the bed of the Busento River, along with the treasure stolen from Rome and its armor. To prevent the immense loot from being found and the king's tomb from remaining at the mercy of the hordes of predators, the river was diverted from its course by an important hydraulic engineering work, done by hundreds of slaves and prisoners, who after bringing the river back to its natural bed, were murdered by Alaric's own army, in order to preserve the secrecy of the tomb.
The precise place of Alaric's tomb remained forever a mystery and the legendary treasure hidden in the waters of the Busento was narrated for centuries, inspiring the verses of Dumas and Carducci.

📍Cosenza , Italy 🇮🇹 _______

🔥THE DEVIL'S FOUNTAIN🔥

Girifalco, a charming town at the foot of the dark and placid Mount Covello, impresses with its expansion, for the kindness of the forms and people of the place, and for the generosity of resources.
It is in the center of the discreet, silent and wise strip of land bathed by the Ionian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea that mystery is born.
According to the collective imagination, the fountain of Carlo Pacino would have been built by the devil, in a single night! On the first step of the structure the signature of the dark creator is clearly visible: the shape of a goat's paw that was so distinguished from the other imperfections on the monument .
