THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE VISITING THIS BUCKET LIST PLACE 👇🏼
This is for my future self, and for anyone else planning a visit here or to a place that’s long been on their bucket list. 👇🏼
1. Plan time in your itinerary to visit more than once during your stay. I got sooo lucky with the weather on this morning, as another photographer told us every morning he had come here to shoot for the past week was foggy and the mountains were not visible. I spent a brief morning here to make the most of our one day in Switzerland, and it wasn’t nearly enough time to satisfy my excitement for the place I had long dreamed of visiting!
2. You can not and will not ever control the weather. I know it’s obvious, but it’s a good reminder. Sometimes things fall into place, like the weather in Lauterbrunnen did for me. But sometimes they don’t (for example we had to cancel the Dolomites due to weather). All you can do is hope & pray, watch the weather, be flexible where you can, and remember you can always come back another time. And in the case of less than ideal conditions, still find it within you to feel grateful that you got to experience it in the first place.
3. It’s okay to be excited. Sometimes it can be a case of building something up in your head and expectations not being equal to reality, but in the case of Lauterbrunnen and Staubbach Falls, the place absolutely blew my mind and was exactly what I thought it would be. The joy and excitement of finally ticking somewhere off your bucket list is, in my opinion, unmatched.
4. Just because it was “the plan” doesn’t mean you have to stick to it. We planned to visit here in the morning then scoot off to do other things. And when the weather was perfect and we were loving Lauterbrunnen, we still dashed off to try and do the next thing. In hindsight, we should have pivoted and stayed here to enjoy it for longer. Don’t be afraid to change the plan - check in with yourself and companions frequently with questions like; “are we enjoying ourselves here?” “Would we rather do x or y right now.” That way you’ll leave without regrets.
