“Circus is in Town” is a visual editorial story exploring the nomadic identity of circus performers within the urban space of Naples.
The editorial explores the thin line between theatrical artifice and the everyday life of three performers within the Neapolitan urban fabric, deconstructing traditional theatrical language.
At the core of the visual narrative
is a simple ritual: stage garments are washed and suspended across the city’s alleys.
Blending with the historical tradition of hanging laundry in the street, this gesture becomes a powerful symbol of collective identity and community life. The garments transform into a temporary installation and an open-air scenography, acting as intertwined stories suspended in the wind. In this aerial landscape, the performers’ bodies merge with the fabrics in a surreal game of marionettes, erasing the distance between body and street. The editorial concludes with a return to the enclosed space of the theater, where the subjects reclaim their absolute performative tension and reconnect with their true theatrical essence.
