Red Bricks Foundation
In 2008, when it first came out, "Romanzo Criminale" was a smash. The 22-episode crime series traced the rise and fall of a team of Roman gangsters, based on a best-selling book by Giancarlo De Cataldo, a judge who used his insider knowledge to expose the links between the establishment and the street. De Cataldo was inspired by the real-life gang Banda della Magliana, which ruled and terrified Rome for over a decade from 1977.
At the time, ten years ago this year, we were a bunch of 13/14 year-olds who were immediately driven by its glamour and glorious come-back lines to preserve and pursue a certain Roman way of being which had long been lost.
For our first shoot together, Red Bricks Foundation and I decided to pull out the narrower shirt collars and trouser legs, letting Chic and Sylvester give way to Devo and Joy Division, to go grab a 66cl Peroni at a local "baretto"
The result is outstanding. From left to right, Lorenzo Sutto, Claudio Cossu, Jacopo Corbari, and Marco Cilo, mischievous, sly and full of swagger.
