It has been a complex job with my friend and colleague Mirko Viglino in the past month and a half. There were several difficulties in visually translating an abstract and difficult to grasp concept, although common to many Italians involved in the confinement period.
The feeling of living in a temporal limbo, crystallized between a recent past made of certainties and habits and a tomorrow full of doubts and fears for what our future and that of our children will be.

By protecting ourselves, we have shut our lives out.

To these problems were then added the difficulties of moving, those of finding the availability of subjects with precise characteristics to try to embrace a wide age group and give a wider vision to the project.

Thanks to all the people involved, from those portrayed to those who helped us correct the shot during construction.

Italy, 9 March 2020. The President of the Council of Ministers, Giuseppe Conte, decrees the lockdown status for the whole national territory. In addition to closure of commercial and production activities not considered essential for subsistence, requires people to stay at home, to avoid gatherings and contagions, and to limit travel to work, health or food needs.

Millions of Italians are catapulted into a confining situation.

The project aims to visually tell stories of suspended existences, in time and space, still images of a twilight Italy, never like this destabilized. People ready to go out who suddenly find their way blocked by a glass that symbolically re ets the outside world, made inhospitable by an invisible enemy.

As in an aquarium, they are alone, frozen in an apparent stillness, far from everyday life, perhaps hated, which today comes as reassuring. Their time full of doubts and uncertainties, fears and hopes. Simulacra with objectives in which everyone can recognize themselves, their marginalization and their battle.

Far from the outside world though it is right there, beyond the glass where everything awaits.

As in an aquarium, they are alone, frozen in an apparent stillness, far from everyday life, perhaps hated, which today comes as reassuring. Their time full of doubts and uncertainties, fears and hopes.
