Hello to everybody, I'm Francesco Amorosino, I'm a photographer and a visual artist.
I'd like to introduce you to my works that I recently decided to divide in four different collections.

Each collection takes together many works that are associated for some topics in common, or some messages that I want to transmit or some feeling that they have in common.

So let's start with the first collection, which is “Photo-sculptures”. What is a photo sculpture?
It's a way to take together two different forms of art: sculpture and photography.

I work in two different ways. One way is to photograph some objects with a special light, with a special setting in a way they feel like sculpture. Sometimes I even shape them in a special form, like a sculpture, then I take a photo and then I dismantle it.

You can find, for instance, the work Migrant Tomatoes in this category, which is the work which won the 2016 Sony World Photography Award in Still Life category. It's a work that I made with tomatoes, but these don't look like tomatoes. Some people say, oh, this is a stone, or this is marble.

The tomatoes are dirty with soil and on the surface of the tomatoes, you can find some fingerprints which are the one from the people who harvested them. So in this way, I talk about workers that are like an invisible presence in our life. We don't know who harvested these tomatoes.

The second kind of works that you can find in this collection are a series of works where I print directly on some objects, usually using liquid silver salts emulsion, which I use in the darkroom. I put it on these objects to make them photosensitive.

One kind of project of this type is “In Media Res”. It is a work, where I speak about the human body compared to sculptures. And I also speak about the past, from ancient Roman statues to our body, where you can find some scars or some signs of the passing of time. So sometimes you don't know which which is a statue, which is a human body. I printed them on marble, on different kind of marbles, like travertine, which is a very popular in Rome and in Italy in general.

So go on my website and take a look to all these works, and please tell me which one is your favorite. If you want, you can buy some prints or you can buy some original work because the photo-sculptures
are all unique pieces. I only produce one.

So if you're interested in them just write to me and I'll let you know all the prices and all the availabilities.
Thank you really much and see you soon for next collection.

Hello to everybody, this is a little preview of the Sony World Photography Award exhibition that is in London now until the 4th of May, where you can find also one photo of my project Humanoids - Portraits of Robots.

In particular, you can find this photo which was shot in the Robot Museum in Istanbul, one of the places that I have visited for this project, along with the USA and Italy so far. I'm planning to visit more locations to expand this project and portray more humanoids to show these new technology and how it's shaping our society and how it will be a big part of our future.

I took this photo with a black background and a very controlled light to give this special effect, as if they were portraits of humans. So not photos of devices, but something more evocative, more mysterious.

The exhibition will travel to different countries so check if it will come to yours as well. It will probably come to Italy as it was for past editions and I cannot wait to see it.

Follow me on Instagram for more photos of this project and take a look to my new website where you can find more information and videos.

If you are interested in buying a print there is a special edition that I print myself in the darkroom with silver salts on aluminium or an edition digitally printed on silver paper. Write me for prices and availabilities. If you go to see the exhibition let me know what do you think. Ciao!

There are small robots and there are big robots but all of them deserve to be photographed! For my project Humanoids - Portraits of Robots I have been photographing them in my stand at Maker Faire.

It was also very interesting to talk with researchers and producers to get their point of view about this technology.

Humanoids will soon be part of our lives and we have to think about our relationship with them!
This project wants to show the human side of robots. It is on going, so if you create robots let me know!

This weekend was crazy! Thousands of visitors for my exhibition "Humanoids - Portraits of Robots" at Maker Faire in Rome!

Such a wonderful space just beneath the Gazometro, an iconic industrial archeology site in Rome. And such a nice event, with so many interesting stands, people, discussions.

Thanks to the team of Maker Faire for having me as an exhibitor and to allow me to create the exhibition just as I wanted!

It was amazing to meet with so many people who discovered the printing technique I use and that gave their opinion about humanoids.

This is just the beginning: new photos are coming and new exhibition as this was always intended as a travelling one.

Thanks also to my team, or teamorosino as they called thenselves: Francesco Quaglietta, Cristiana Fasano and Stefano Falcone. Without them this would have been impossible.

More photos ans video soon!

There's a technology that will soon be part of our lives, yet little is known about it: humanoid robots. These devices are already present in limited contexts, such as museums (where they serve as welcome and guides) or factories. Experts, however, are betting that they will soon be in our homes as well.

The photographic project "Humanoids – Portraits of Robots" by Francesco Amorosino aims to portray humanoid robots not as objects but, by applying portraiture techniques, to highlight their human-like qualities. The series will be presented for the first time at the 2025 edition of the Maker Faire, taking place in Rome from October 17 to 19.

The photographs were taken at the robotics laboratory of the University of Texas at Austin; the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa; and the Robot Museum in Istanbul. They were then printed by the author using liquid silver emulsion on aluminum.
