ESTRILDIDI E LE LORO SOTTOSPECIE.

Il diamante mascherato (Poephila personata Gould, 1842).

Occupa un areale che include gran parte della fascia costiera dell'Australia settentrionale, dalla città di Broome a ovest fino alla pen*sola di Capo York ad est, fino a capo Melville ed a Chillagoe.

Se ne conoscono due sottospecie;

Poephila personata personata, la sottospecie nominale, diffusa nella porzione occidentale dell'areale fino al centoquarantesimo meridiano, nonché la più comunemente allevata anche in cattività;

Poephila personata leucotis, diffusa nella porzione orientale dell'areale occupato dalla specie, caratterizzata dalla presenza di penne di colore bianco sporco su guance, mento e gola, oltre a una calotta di colore marrone carico sulla testa ed il becco giallo più chiaro rispetto alla sottospecie nominale.

The Masked finch (Poephila personata Gould, 1842).

It occupies an area that includes much of the coastal strip of northern Australia, from the city of Broome in the west to the Cape York Peninsula in the east, to Cape Melville and Chillagoe.

Two subspecies are known;
-
Poephila personata personata, the nominal subspecies, widespread in the western portion of the range up to one hundred and fortyth meridian, and the most commonly bred also in captivity;

Poephila personata leucotis, widespread in the eastern portion of the range occupied by the species, characterized by the presence of off-white feathers on the cheeks, chin and throat, as well as a brown cap loaded on the head and the yellow beak lighter than the nominal subspecies.
