YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/ URBAN looks for talent and quality both among professional and amateur photographers, offering them a world wide platform from which to get noticed. Promoted by dotART, a Trieste (Italy) based cultural association with years of ex

perience working in the field of artistic photography and the visual arts, every year URBAN draws thousand of partecipating pictures and hundreds of participants from all over the world. It is an always growing international contest, one of the very few that goes “over the boundaries” of Internet offering to photographers real visibility through dozens of international photo exhibitions. Only in 2019 URBAN realized 50 exhibitions displaying about 1.700 pictures. Behind it all, there is always the pursue of enhancement of photographic talent and quality.

We are delighted to announce that Lorenzo Roncaglione, with his project Appleby Horse Fair – Portraits of a Tradition in Motion, is the winner of the URBAN Press Award 2026.

Every year, in the English town of Appleby-in-Westmorland, thousands of people from Gypsy and Traveller communities across the United Kingdom come together for the largest horse fair in Europe. Roncaglione captures the event through the faces, stories and everyday gestures of those who bring it to life.

Federica Berzioli, editorial coordinator of IL FOTOGRAFO, is a visual communication professional with extensive experience in design and publishing. She regularly curates portfolio reviews, moderates photography discussions and serves on the juries of major Italian photography awards.

The series looks beyond the spectacle of Appleby Horse Fair to focus on the people, faces and everyday moments that bring this historic gathering to life.

Through caravans, open fields and horses, the images explore how community, identity and belonging are shaped through shared spaces, habits and traditions.

Rather than portraying a tradition frozen in time, the project presents Appleby as a living, evolving cultural space where collective memory and contemporary life intertwine.

𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚 𝐃. 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝! 😎

We are proud to announce that German photographer Marcel van Beek has won the 2026 Patricia D. Richards Legacy Award with The Future Was Extracted Here, a black-and-white sequence exploring the landscape of coal.

Van Beek photographs the Central German coalfields around Leipzig, where lignite mining, power generation, district heating, GDR-era housing estates and post-mining lakes coexist within a single layered landscape.

Van Beek reads this territory as a condition that is still active: coal as a source of heat, work, housing and a promise of progress, and at the same time as the origin of an environmental legacy that we are now called upon to confront.
In several images, the artist uses tonal inversion, rendering familiar places unreal and holding the photographs between document and memory.

The jury that selected the winning project was chaired by Claudia Colecchia, Head of the Photo Library and Library of the Civic Museums of History and Art of the Municipality of Trieste | Musei Civici Trieste.

Marcel van Beek is a German visual artist and photographer who has lived and worked in Leipzig since 2020.
He studied painting, graphic arts and photography at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction.

His artistic research focuses on the relationship between humanity and nature in the age of climate change. Through a range of photographic projects, he explores themes including planetary boundaries, the transformation of urban environments, biodiversity and the role of water within ecosystems.

His works are held in public collections and have been exhibited since 2014 in solo and group exhibitions in Germany and internationally, in cities including Berlin, Glasgow, Athens, Geneva and Minneapolis.

The industry contributes to severe air pollution, soil degradation, and high carbon emissions tied to rapid urban construction.

Employed on seasonal contracts earning around 80,000 taka per season, many laborers face serious health risks, including breathing problems and various skin diseases, while working in hazardous conditions.

The exhibition is located on the FIRST FLOOR and is completely FREE.😁✨️
