There are days when you don’t simply chase a thunderstorm. You chase an idea, a signature of the atmosphere. This was one of those days.
Chasing storms means placing yourself at the exact point where physics and beauty meet. A delicate balance of respect, caution, and awe.
The forecasts hinted at an environment supportive of severe weather across southern Veneto, but seeing a storm like this materialize before your eyes is always something different. Something no weather model can truly capture.
Across the plains between Rovigo and Adria, an impressive supercell emerged: a massive rotating base suspended over the fields, fueled by a powerful and persistent inflow, while the precipitation core unleashed torrential rain, hail, and damaging wind gusts beneath its most active sector.
For long minutes, I stood watching the atmospheric engine at work. Rising currents feeding the mesocyclone, sculpted cloud formations shaped by intense wind shear, and dramatic contrasts of light turning the Venetian countryside into a scene straight out of the American Great Plains.
This is the atmosphere at its most spectacular: powerful, elegant, and untamed.
