Richard Sharum

Richard Sharum Photographer, Humanist. Richard Sharum is a documentary and project-based photographer based in the Dallas, Texas area.

Mainly focusing on socio-economic or social justice dilemmas concerning the human condition, his work has been regarded as in-depth, up-close and personal. Selections have been added to private and public collections across the world, with exhibitions in Kyoto, Japan, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Reggio Emilia, Italy, New York, and Dallas.His commissions include those by The Meadows Foundation, Centers for

Community Cooperation, Harvard Law School, Student Conservation Association, Childrens Medical Center (Oncology), Childrens Cancer Fund, Notre Dame School for the Mentally Ill, Family Gateway Homeless Shelter, and several others over the years. His publications include those by Texas Monthly, The New York Times Lens Blog (Great American Eclipse), D Magazine, International Business Times Weekly, Glasstire, The Dallas Observer, SpacingToronto Magazine.In 2015 and 2016, he initiated the Observe Dallas Project, where 8 photographs (40 feet x 60 feet) were draped on 5 different buildings in Downtown Dallas for a total of two months. This became the largest outdoor photography exhibit in the city’s history and helped serve as a catalyst for a city-wide conversation on the homeless population. He was awarded the Cultural Projects Grant as a result.In 2019 he was one of 5 finalists for the International Center for Photography/GOST First Book Award with his Campesino project and became a # # Eddie Adams Alumnus in upstate New York.His first major title Campesino will be released Spring 2021 under GOST Books (London).
