"Provoio v Lorenzo", Venice.

A junction in the Castello district where the Rio di S. Provoio canal meets the Rio de S. Lorenzo canal.

It was such a simple yet dynamic scene with busy "highway" Lorenzo offered, connecting the quieter canals like Provoio to the surrounding Venecian lagoon. I sat here for about an hour just capturing everything - I found it so captivating that there was only one composition I had in mind.

Previsualising a location when creating Timescape art can be really helpful. Whilst so many of my artwork is created in the fly, there are some locations that are so beautiful it becomes easy to eventually understand how a final Timescape could come together. Backgrounds are really important, and if you can find a stunning backdrop like this, the rest just fits.

Baker Street station was one of the first pictures I made using the multiple exposure methodology.

Using the famous design of the station, and the iconic photographs of commuters sat on the benches beneath the tunnels of light above them, I thought of an image that would blend those elements with the natural energy of the station.

Any Timescape image requires a powerful backdrop for it to be effective, similar to many other photography genres. In a way it helps to visually manage the chaos that forms naturally as a result of the picture.

Whilst my style has changed significantly since I produced this, it'll always remain one of my favourites - capturing the time when facemasks became a grey area for all of us - here you can see some adopting them, where others look to a pre-2020 approach.

--- BRAND NEW WORK ---

Intentionally slow shutter speeds during an evening wandering through Rione VI Parione in Rome, Italy, met for some challenging yet new ground for me. Before this is only ever thought about creating a nighttime Timescape. The streets in this area of Rome were too beautiful not to try. Quintessentially Italian with deep yellow walls, half-open window shutters and beautiful lamps lighting the way. This small area of restaurants was tucked away with blurs of people passing by as street light cast shadows on the walls.

The Royal Horse Guards of Buckingham palace, London.

I've always wanted to create something with the Royal guards - they stand out amongst everyone walking around the famous Whitehall area.

Because the area was so busy, this was really simple to construct. I just had to stand in the same spot for 10 minutes as tourists passed by. The actual difficulty was getting a clear picture of the guard and horse.

As with many of my images, this was made with 10-15 layers of raw then processed images. The sky was a dull grey and I wanted something that contrasted with the white buildings, and so I went into my sky library and found one I took from my back garden, that worked.

Hope you like!

St Paul's Cathedral, London

Created from a blend of several images taken on the bridge by the Tate Modern museum.

For this one I also took several images of skies that I took from my house. They work so well when there's a flat, dull sky and I love experimenting to see how different skies enhance the final image to represent the mood I'm trying to get across.

The London Commute

Another TIMESCAPES piece created just outside the area of Bank, in London. This is one of my earlier pictures, taken on a summer evening, where I wanted to capture the essence of daily life in London, featuring commuters walking through an iconic archway near Bank station.

One of the tricks with Timescape photography, like any photography, is waiting patiently for frames to unfold. Taking then a series of shots, usually around 30 or more within an area, it's then the graft of sifting through them to pick the best ones that help represent that vision you have for the final image.

"Timescapes" is a unique approach where I layer 10+ images to create a rich, dynamic scene that tells a deeper story. Through this technique, I aim to highlight the beauty in the mundane and the extraordinary in the everyday.

πŸŒ‡ "Blink and You'll Miss It" πŸŒ‡

Hey everyone!

I'm really excited to share a recent "Timescape" of mine, created in Amsterdam. I was there for 3 days and am consistently blown away by the architecture.

Amongst the business of Amsterdam, I liked the juxtaposition here of the gentleman strolling on his phone, missing the scene around him as it unfolds. Amsterdam is such a beautiful city, with breathtaking buildings and a vibrant culture, which is why I personally think this images works so well pitching the two features against each other in this picture - the contrast of modern distractions in the midst of timeless beauty.

πŸŒ† Why "Timescapes"?
In "Timescapes," I layer 10+ images to create a scene that's richer and more dynamic than any single photo could be. It’s all about capturing those little moments we often overlook.

One of my favourites and most popular Timescapes to date: "Soho in Orange"

Thrilled to present my most popular "Timescapes" creation yetβ€”a vibrant and cohesive multiple exposure image set in the heart of Soho, London. This piece features a coordinated colour scheme owed to the woman you see in the foreground, perfectly matching the lively hues of Chinatown.

"Timescapes" captures the essence of movement and time by overlaying 10+ layers of images taken on my Nikon Z6 ii. This technique allows me to create a rich tapestry of colors, textures, and moments that tell a deeper story.

"Soho in Orange"
- Experience the vibrant synergy of the orange tones that tie the scene together.
- Feel the pulse of Soho's dynamic atmosphere through each carefully crafted layer.
- Immerse yourself in the blend of individuality and community in this iconic London district.

🌟 **Introducing "Timescapes: Cycling Through Oxford" 🌟**

I'm excited to share this image of Oxford, from my "Timescapes" seriesβ€”a mesmerizing multiple exposure image of a cyclist in the heart of Oxford. This piece is a visual journey, layered with 10+ images that capture the essence of movement, time, and the vibrant life of this historic city.

Why Timescapes?

"Timescapes" aren't just a photograph; it's an experience. By overlaying multiple images, I aim to blend multiple points in time into a single frame, offering a unique perspective that goes beyond the ordinary.

- Spot the hidden details in each layer.
- Feel the rhythm of the cyclist as they navigate through iconic Oxford streets.
- Immerse yourself in the fusion of motion and stillness.
