Cristian Geelen Photography

Cristian Geelen Photography Cristian Geelen is a photographer and a dedicated darkroom printer

Influenced by the all time greats by the likes of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Joseph Koudelka, and Alexey Titarenko, I decided to tell my own photo stories... Some of them led me to document the life in Israel and the Palestinian territories, other times it led me to capture the beautiful souls of the people in Iran...

Most of my work from those kind of journeys is fine art and documentary based, but

as a photographer, and most importantly, story teller, I am not afraid of using those skills in my commercial work...

Whether it’s spending a day with a athlete or yogi, shooting a brand, a event, or tell the wonderful story of the streets…

Everyone has a story and I want to capture it and tell it to the wold…

Let’s work together so we can inspire the world with our stories…

I recently went to Venice. I needed to think. I thought about wine as well. Even drank it. I thought about life, and death. That I really love photography. But that I am frustrated that I went to print it in a way that doesn’t exist yet. I thought about my friends. About that I love painting. And that I love the paintings of Frans Hals and John singer Sargent so much. I thought about missing a deadline. But also about my grandmother. I immediately got het some refrigerator magnets because she collects those. I thought about my other friends all over the world and I hope that they are safe. I thought about ordering another glass of wine. Which I did.

I also thought about taking some photographs. I will put those in my diary.

Slowly but steadily creating new work. More on that when I will go on a printing spree and have had a million years of proper sleep. In the mean time I think I have a thing for roads.

Time has always been important to me. Ever since I was a young boy I have bee thinking about the concept of time and that there is only a finite amount of it. I guess that one of the things when you lose a parent at a young age. It always gave me enough fuel to chase my ambitions and dreams… Still does…

So how would one capture time. That something for 2026 to explore. I have started smudging and folding prints and manipulating them. To see if it somehow expresses when I feel. Let’s see where it brings me.

Colour for most people is something normal. Not for me though. I am colourblind since the day I was born and will be until this body dies.

In my own way I started approaching colour lately. I went to the Frans Hals Museum as often as I could studying every painting that made me move. I researched colour pallets, brush strokes, Frans Hals and Jan Porcellis until I could almost dream all of their works. Bought books of John Singer Sargent and van Gogh. Which seems like an easy task for most and just use your eyes, I have to written down everything in numbers and values, and see how the luminosity touches me emotionally.

From there on I have to go feel and what I like and to see what these broken sensors that are called my eyes come up with. What might be a green, brown, and blue to you is not a green, brown, and blue to me. It’s just a shade that no matter how hard I try to explain, I will never be able see the world like you do. But despite all of that. Maybe by creating some things in colour I will be able to express myself in a new way.

Working in colour something totally different than what I normally do. Which is working with black and white, silver gelatin, or alternative processes. But despite my broken eyes I cannot be not be not inspired every time I am walking around the woods or the sea at home, nourishing my soul in Morocco, or feeding my heart in Italy. It is not that I am missing something, but something is missing from me...

There are two series in the works. One seascapes, one landscapes. Let’s see where it brings me and my thoughts.

Excited to finally have received issue 50 of which showcases two of my prints. Of which I am very proud. Thank you so much for including my work, Adam.

Forever grateful whenever I get the possibility to showcase my art through either printed publications or exhibitions. I promise you everything I create comes straight from the heart.

I will share an update about the things that I am currently working on soon. It even involves work colour. But like everything in life, things take time…
