The sun rises over the mighty Sepik River. In a country with few roads, this vast waterway serves as Papua New Guinea’s main highway and lifeline. As dawn unfolds, daily life begins along the banks—wooden canoes glide past, riverfront villages slowly wake up to another morning and villagers take their produce to the market.

El sol sale sobre el imponente río Sepik. En un país con pocas carreteras, esta vasta vía fluvial constituye la principal arteria y el sustento vital de Papúa Nueva Guinea. Al despuntar el alba, la vida cotidiana cobra ritmo en las orillas: se deslizan canoas de madera, las aldeas ribereñas despiertan lentamente a una nueva mañana y los habitantes llevan sus productos al mercado.

I Stood on a crammed local bus for 4 hours for this: the 5th-century Avukana Buddha.
I saw this carved granite statue on an old Nat Geo cover years ago and it just stuck with me. Standing 12 meters tall near the Kala Wewa reservoir, it’s one of Sri Lanka’s most impressive ancient rock carvings—especially the level of detail on the stone robes. When I finally got there, I was the only foreigner. No crowds, just quiet. Worth every minute on that bus. (The last photo is the Nat Geo cover that made me want to go).

Estuve de pie en un autobús local durante cuatro horas para ver esto: el Buda de Avukana. Vi esta estatua de granito tallado en una vieja portada de National Geographic hace años y se me quedó grabada. Con sus 12 metros de altura, cerca del embalse de Kala Wewa, es una de las tallas rupestres antiguas más impresionantes de Sri Lanka, especialmente por el nivel de detalle de las túnicas de piedra. Cuando finalmente llegué, era el único extranjero. No había multitudes, solo tranquilidad. Valió la pena cada minuto en ese autobús. Traveling by local bus from Negombo toward the incredible Avukana Buddha statue—which I first saw on the cover of an old National Geographic—I stopped by the shores of the Kala Wewa reservoir. There, I came across these smiling men washing off after a long day of work. The final photo is a self-portrait taken on that bumpy four-hour bus ride, restored with AI since the original frame was quite blurry.

Rumbo en autobús desde Negombo para ver la impresionante estatua de Buda de Avukana —descubierta en la portada de un viejo National Geographic—, me detuve a orillas del embalse Kala Wewa y me crucé con estos hombres bañandose el el lago tras su jornada de trabajo. Today I’m arriving in the most far-flung place I’ve ever visited: a nation occupying the eastern half of the world’s second-largest island. In the 1930s, mineral surveyors searching for gold pushed into the uncharted interior highlands, expecting empty wilderness. Instead, they discovered nearly a million people with virtually no prior contact with the outside world. Because of its geographic isolation, over 800 distinct languages are spoken here today accounting for more than 10% of all living languages on Earth.

Where in the world am I? (Hint: Though these photos are from Ethiopia's Omo Valley for illustration, my next stop is a whole new continent!)

Hoy llego al lugar más remoto que he visitado: una nación que ocupa la mitad oriental de la segunda isla más grande del mundo. En la década de 1930, exploradores mineros buscando oro se adentraron en las inexploradas tierras altas del interior, esperando encontrar un desierto desolado. En cambio, descubrieron a casi un millón de personas prácticamente sin contacto previo con el mundo exterior. Debido a su aislamiento geográfico, hoy se hablan aquí más de 800 idiomas distintos, lo que representa más del 10 % de todas las lenguas vivas del planeta.

July 28th is Peru's National Day. Even though I spent only one third of my life there, Peru is always present in my mind. Whenever I go there I have mixed feelings: Nostalgia for a life I didn't live and for a country I knew which doesn't exist any longer. Nevertheless, I keep hoping that my country of birth can fulfill all of its potential. Viva el Peru Carajo! Hera are some everyday scenes from all across the country.

El 28 de julio es el Día Nacional del Perú. Aunque pasé allí sólo un tercio de mi vida, el Perú siempre está presente en mi mente. Siempre que voy allí tengo sentimientos encontrados: nostalgia por una vida que no viví y por un país que conocí y que ya no existe. Sin embargo, sigo esperando que mi país de nacimiento pueda alcanzar todo su potencial. Viva el Peru Carajo! Aqui les comparto algunas escenas de vida tomadas por todo el territorio nacional.

I first came across Hampi years ago while flipping through a photo book as a student working in a Canadian bookstore. With my fascination for ancient ruins, I was instantly hooked. Two decades later, I finally made the journey. Far from a collection of silent stones, the ancient capital of the Vijayanagara Empire is vibrant and full of life—from families washing clothes along the river to quiet prayers inside centuries-old shrines. This series captures those everyday moments unfolding in the shadows of Hampi’s monumental temples and palaces.

Descubrí Hampi ojeando un libro de fotografía mientras trabajaba en una librería durante mis años de estudiante en Canadá. Con mi fascinación por las ruinas antiguas, me enganché inmediatamente. Dos décadas después, finalmente hice el viaje. Lejos de ser un conjunto de piedras silenciosas, la antigua capital del Imperio Vijayanagara está llena de vida con familias lavando ropa a orillas del río y oraciones en el interior de antiguos santuarios. Esta serie captura esos momentos cotidianos que transcurren a la sombra de los monumentales templos y palacios de Hampi.

For this year’s Fête Nationale, I’m looking back at my connection to France.
I first set foot here during my university years in Canada, while backpacking through Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. In Barcelona, while hiding my passport under my hostel mattress before heading to the beach, I stumbled upon 2,000 French Francs sewn right into the fabric! I decided to to head to the nearest French city: Toulouse to spend the money. If someone had told me then that seven years later I would be living in France—and in Toulouse, of all places—I would have laughed. Destiny is funny like that. Despite my "scary accent," I have now spent more time living in France than anywhere else, and I truly feel at home. France has been incredibly good to me. Happy Bastille Day!

Pour la Fête Nationale cette année, je repense à mon lien avec la France. C'est durant mes études universitaires au Canada, lors d'un voyage en sac à dos à travers le Portugal, l'Espagne et le Maroc, que j'y ai posé le pied pour la première fois. À Barcelone, alors que je cachais mon passeport sous le matelas de mon auberge de jeunesse avant d'aller à la plage, je suis tombé sur 2 000 francs français cousus au matelas ! J'ai alors décidé de filer vers la ville française la plus proche pour dépenser cet argent : Toulouse. Si on m'avait dit à l'époque que sept ans plus t**d, je vivrais en France — et à Toulouse, de surcroît — j'aurais bien ri. Le destin a parfois de drôles de manières de faire. Malgré mon « accent épouvantable », j'ai désormais passé plus de temps en France que nulle part ailleurs, et je m'y sens vraiment chez moi. La France a été incroyablement généreuse avec moi.

Those pages sparked a curiosity that never left me. Years later, that curiosity has taken me across continents, chasing people places and cultures that make every place unique.

Ven a descubrir el mundo conmigo. De niño en el Perú, pasaba horas con las revistas de National Geographic, soñando con lugares que parecían increíblemente lejanos. Esas páginas despertaron en mí una curiosidad que nunca me abandonó.
