I still can’t find a country I like photographing more.

After having traveled all over the globe, I still keep coming back to Japan.

And after travelling to all 47 prefectures over many years, these are some of my favorite images I’ve taken over the past decade—camera in hand, experiences in heart.

Now, I’m on a mission to take your photos from good to great, so if you’re interested in Japan photography or learning photography, then follow along and let’s get started. 🤝

10 years of chasing the best photos in all 47 prefectures of Japan, and I still haven’t stopped my love for shooting torii. They’re just some of the most iconic Japanese subjects ever, and the culture of why they exist (Shintoism) is a huge part of why I was interested in discovering Japan in the first place.

Lucky for me then, there’s over an estimated 90,000 torii all across japan. 88,361 to go, then.

Btw, if you’re into Japan or Japan photography and want to follow someone who is crazy passionate about it, follow me! I post inspiring photos of Japan and photography tips every single day.

Hey! I’m Pat Kay and I love photography.

Minimal, street, all the scapes, aerials, anything! I’m a travel photographer, so I love documenting anything to do with people, places, or cultures.

If you do too, I’d love to chat with you in the comments!

And if you’re new here, I’m on a mission to take your photos from good to great, so if you’re interested in learning photography, then follow along and let’s get started! 🤝

Oh hey, I’m Pat Kay. I’ve spent the last 10 years building a portfolio like this. Travelling to all 47 prefectures, all over the country.

My favourite places are the ones guidebooks skip. So years ago, I built my own. Made specifically for photography. My Photography Guides to Japan, Tokyo & Kyoto were the first of their kind, and I think, still the best.

Location pins, best times to go, what gear to bring, how to shoot each spot, and so much more. Everything I wish I had before my first trip to Japan.

Even after all this time. 10 years chasing the best photos all over Japan. All 47 prefectures. The one thing I always come back to is Mt Fuji. There’s just something about it—so many angles, so many conditions, so many looks. It amazes me every single time I see it and it will forever be my favourite thing to shoot in the country.
And hey, if you’re into Japan or Japan photography and want to follow someone who is crazy passionate about it, let’s be friends 🤝

I’ve had the pleasure of owning and using almost every single iPhone ever made, and there’s been a lot of models of them over the years of me exploring Japan. Some of these photos are from iPhone 7, 8, and 10. Can you guess which ones?

P.S. Comment “photography tips” and I’ll send you 30 tips in 30 days to supercharge your photography, completely free!

You know, just like the good old days. The days where we actually stopped scrolling when a single photo took our breath away. The days where the art of the photograph was enough. The days where we genuinely liked seeing photos from the people we followed.

Those were good times. Let’s go back.
