Sometimes travel doesn’t go as planned, and you end up spending more time somewhere than you expected. We were only supposed to be at Hiro Station for five minutes, and ended up being there for around an hour! Luckily, with a patient travel companion (my dad, who appears in the photos) I turned the extra time into a mini photoshoot. The rusty bridge made a striking focal point, and I loved the contrast of being in a place that could be busy but was mostly empty, with only a few people passing through.

P.S. I confess, it was my fault 🤣
P.P.S. In my defence, we were supposed to change trains but stay on the same line.

Only took me 6 months to finally put together a video from an unforgettable trip to Shanghai. Filmed during Golden Week—aka the busiest week of the year in China with around 18.62 million visitors over the seven-day holiday. The energy, the crowds, the chaos… it was wild in the best way.

Golden Week in Shanghai is next-level crowded — and we’re here for it.Join me on a fast-paced wander through packed streets, military crowd control, one-way ...

The Shanghai Tower - China's Tallest Building

Visiting during Golden Week meant there was a 1 and a half hour wait to get to the top. Standing 632m tall, it made the surrounding skyscrapers look like toy buildings. There was also a very sweet labrador on guard.

Twinning Cities 👀

Could almost be the Liverpool Pier Head on the other side of the globe. This is “The Bund” at Shanghai’s waterfront which was modelled on the Three Graces of Liverpool. Pretty cool, eh? 🇬🇧 🇨🇳

Leading Lines & Blue Doors

The main challenge was the large dark shadows from the late afternoon sun. To bring back some of the detail I used some masking in Lightroom and applied that to the darkest areas. Not perfect but when you've limited remaining at a location, you've got to work with what you have.

Have you faced similar photographic challenges? What did you do to fix it or did you just embrace it?
