Sendai Port in the summertime is a pretty amazing place to relax. Either just enjoy the scenery or try fishing, you wouldn't regret coming there at least once.

It was a foggy snowy morning in Matsushima. I luckily woke up early to witness a beautifully whimsical winter scenery from the viewing deck at Petit Hotel Bistro Avalon.

Kokeshi (こけし), are Japanese dolls, originally from northern Japan. They are handmade from wood, have a simple trunk and an enlarged head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face. The body has a floral design painted in red, black, and sometimes yellow, and covered with a layer of wax. One characteristic of kokeshi dolls is their lack of arms or legs. The bottom is typically marked with the signature of the artist.
Kokeshi were first produced by kijishi (木地師), artisans proficient with a potter's wheel, at the Shinchi Shuraku, near the Tōgatta Onsen in Zaō from where kokeshi-making techniques spread to other spa areas in the Tōhoku region. It is said that these dolls were originally made during the middle of the Edo period (1600–1868) to be sold to people who were visiting the hot springs in the north-east of the country.

We cannot stop the winter or the summer from coming. We cannot stop the spring or the fall or make them other than they are. They are gifts from the universe that we cannot refuse. But we can choose what we will contribute to life when each arrives. (Gary Zukav)

Today i went to a little hidden gem north of Sendai, Lake nanatsumori near Taiwa. Though it might not look like much at the beginning, but come the sunset and you will be greeted with an amazing display of colors and reflections on the lake and the surrounding mountains ...

The morning air of the pasture turned steadily cooler. Day by day, the bright golden leaves of the birches turned more spotted as the first winds of winter slipped between the withered branches and across the highlands toward the southeast. Stopping in the center of the pasture, I could hear the winds clearly. No turning back, they pronounced. The brief autumn was gone.

This is from a heritage park called "Esashi Fujiwara no Sato #えさし原の郷 " and I definitely recommend that you give it a visit if you're around Iwate Prefecture in Tohoku.

Enjoy a throwback to the Japanese Heian era (794 to 1185) including trick art locations, cosplay, archery experience, and live performances and special events throughout the year.

When I first saw this building down in the middle of Yamagata city, I was pleasantly surprised. Somehow it doesn't feel like I'm in Japan but somewhere in Europe. I definitely will come again the next time I go to Yamagata. PS: the best time to visit is in spring, in my opinion!

Only a short train ride from Sendai, but still outside of the bustling city's busy grasp, lies Okunikkawa. The small collection of houses (I dare not call it a village) lies at the entrance to a hiking path that can take adventurers straight to Yamadera with its landmark Ryushaku temple towering high above the other dwellings. Along the way in the semi-wild lie a shrine and an abandoned power generator that has today been mostly reclaimed by nature. If hikers take the right turn, they will end up by Kiyomizutaki, the waterfall providing most of nature's background music. Some visitors even feel inspired enough to join in
