Spotted this bird in the tea plantations of Tigoni. Small but fierce, the African Stonechat stakes its territory with a call that sounds like two stones clinking, tsack-tsack, proving even the tiniest voices can hold weight in the wild.

Captured in dust and golden light: the stride of leadership. Every step resonates across the lives of 50 million Kenyans. A deputy president does not walk alone; he carries the weight of a nation’s hopes and the solemn duty to see them realized.

When the path is clear and the direction true, the people follow not out of obligation, but out of shared belief. This is the art of leading, where the road chosen becomes the foundation for a nation’s unity.

I had already picked my position at the main meeting area, knowing the escalator would be the only controlled entry point. From there, elevation mattered more than proximity. I wasn’t chasing the front line with everyone else. I was waiting for the angle that would outlast the movement.

As expected, the media packed the space below. Lenses up, bodies tight, the frame closing before it could even form. From where I stood, all I could see were backs and raised cameras. The shot was there, but blocked. For a moment, it felt like one of those setups that never resolves.

Then it shifted.

Just as the escalator delivered them, the line in front broke. Not slowly, but all at once. The same photographers who had filled the frame cleared out of it. And in that brief opening, the principals stepped into view exactly where I had anticipated.

No repositioning. No scramble. Just timing meeting preparation.

At the Nairobi Terminus, the moment wasn’t given. It revealed itself.

I had already framed my shot. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at the podium, the SGR locomotive behind him, still, present.

Birds lingered around us, not yet in flight.

Then a plane crossed the sky behind him and something clicked, instinct took over, land and air in one frame.

A day marking zero-rated consignments to China, movement in every direction.

As if on cue the birds lifted and entered the frame at once.

I held it, pressed once, history kept.

No speech stands alone.

It leans on the listening.
On raised hands.
On the quiet decision of a crowd to engage.

From above, Chepalungu is not just seen.
It answers back.
