Let me tell you a story about Sam! When my mum was diagnosed with cancer in August last year he was the first friend I called to tell because he was going through the same thing with his dad earlier in the year. He told me what I need to do, questions I needed to ask the doctor and most importantly he told me I have to be stronger than I’ve ever been in my life. So that week Mum went to hospital for what would be a battle for her life. The first day in surgery we were all pacing around the waiting room. Sam calls me and tells me he’s on his way coming. Came sat down with us and shared his dad’s story with my Aunt just to encourage her. The subsequent weeks were particularly hard coz of complications and this guy was there sending me checklists of how to be a caregiver, diet advice for her when she left hospital and all. One day he brought his dad to the hospital to see Mum. This guy (Sam’s dad) had gone through serious surgery that had him in hospital for months but there he was giving me advice about how to fight in the parking lot coz he couldn’t go in the hospital. Sam’s Mum had me go over to her house to teach me how to cook some food that Mum would like and offer her advice. A day before Mum died early this year Sam came to see Mum in hospital and they sat there laughing about her disease and how she would win the battle. He encouraged her to fight. He was there from day 1 to the last even though going through a tough time in his life. is a friend we all need in this life. 🙏🏾 Happens to be cancer awareness month and this is part of my story.
