There was a season when I had no gear, only ideas. I used to ask for exactly this — a chance to practice, to fail loudly, to build in front of people.

Now I get to actually practice film and sharpen it project by project.

The system was never built for people like us to begin with.
Kenya has stories. Kenya has talent.

What Kenya doesn't have is a system that makes room for them.
You can shoot a film on an iPhone in your house
and still hit a wall built out of paperwork, fees, gatekeeping —
things that have nothing to do with the work itself.

This is what it actually costs to make a film in kenya.
Not just time. Not just money.
Permission.
