Impala are often considered a bit boring on a game drive - especially in the Greater Kruger Area. But are their common presence and large numbers not just a marker of their success as a species?

I love the detail in this shot, captured with the Canon R5 MkII and RF 100-500 lens.

• Circles in the Sky •

Circling vultures may seem like a signal of doom or death to most people, but those who look past that know that they’re a sign of hope.

Vultures are among the most endangered species in southern Africa, with all 9 species resident breeding species currently listed as either Endangered, Critically Endangered, or Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.

• Busy & Bright •

Sunbirds barely sit still, and this male Collared Sunbird was no exception. I spent ages following him from bush to bush trying to line up the perfect pose to show off his beautiful bright colours.

In the wild, your next step is always the most important one… Right or wrong, it could lead you down a path of opportunity or peril.

• King of the Forest •

One of Africa’s largest and most striking eagles, and a personal favourite of mine is the Crowned Eagle. As far as I’m concerned, this is the king of the forest on our continent, expert hunters that combine agility and power to incredible effect.

Watching and hearing the bush react to their movement is an amazing way to realise just how imposing their presence is.

The bright orange of this Red-capped Robin-Chat stands out against the dark thicket of the KwaZulu Natal bush.

These beautiful birds are often heard before they’re seen, but their curious nature means they’ll venture closer if you’re patient enough!

• Gaze •

It’s always a treat seeing cheetahs in the wild, I love the intensity of their gaze and how they seem to pose so naturally…

Blessed with some beautiful light to bring it all together 🫶🏻
