The Print Room

The Print Room Photographic gallery and studio. The Print Room offers private classes in fine arts photography. The working studio is also available for rental for private use.

In-studio indoor and on the field lessons for outdoor on-location film photography techniques will be followed through with theory and techniques for processing film, printing on paper, mounting and framing the final print. Theory and history classes will be taught by our own or invited instructors and will cover the range of genres from photojournalism, landscape, nature, fashion, portrait, archi

tectural to abstract. Digital photography and software will be used to support publication ventures. Periodically, as part of the educational objectives of the company, The Print Room will organize exhibitions of the work of its students, instructors and fellow photographers and other artist colleagues where works will be put up for sale to the public. The company shall also produce related publications such as catalogues of exhibitions, feature books on photography and various other visual fine arts, tutoring manuals, etc.

Thirty three selected works shot over a period of nine years from ten photographers are on show from the original

Open every day 1pm to 8pm
Exhibition ends 8pm Sunday 19th April.

When The print room opened its doors back in 2011 one of our first and youngest students was Razlan, if memory serves, he was 18 years old when he started.
Today, he is professionally working as a photographer/videographer for various magazines and runs his creative agency.

In the build up to first major group exhibition, Market, Alex literally shot 3am at 3am.

Pudu market in Kuala Lumpur is quite a surreal place@to visit. Here you could witness animals getting slaughtered, families buying groceries and prostitutes looking for their next client, all before breakfast.

For three months a number of students worked tirelessly documenting the market, which became one of our most strongest documentary exhibitions.

We will be officially open from 5pm but I will be there earlier.

These two photographs by Eileen Chwee, coconut man and Tuck shop were shot back in 2012 for the exhibition “ Within these walls”.

Unfortunately the negatives from “Tuck shop” has since vanished making this shot the only one.

This photograph was always one of my favorites from Shareem’s documentary work. She had that knack of capturing something simple and creating an image with depth and meaning.

I was lucky enough to get the last remaining pieces from of her “discover the full body series” which she worked on back in 2014.
More sleepless nights and Lisa only managed for finish her main piece the morning of the exhibition, and by the evening it was sold.

This was quite a difficult print to do for our next exhibition “MY darkroom”. Once again the photographer had zero notes/recollection on how it was printed. 🤣
I remember when the original was printed back in 2014 it became a very long night which end up morning, and Im sure there was a bottle of whisky making a rounds.
On the opening of “Body” exhibition the artist Shung Yen sold the whole series of his works twice during the show. Impressive.
We will be showing two of his works from the series “Birth” from 28th March.

I have spent the past couple of weeks printing work from the old students, and It’s been quite a challenge. Not one student took notes 😒 so I had to try and replicate their style of printing.. not bloody easy.
Some of the works I bought over the years will also be included in the show, and if anyone wants to buy them.. good luck. 😬
I will be collecting some of the larger works when I visit KL in a couple of weeks due to Korean customs being a royal pain in the arse. Hence the blank spaces.
