泥中の蓮という言葉がある。維摩経や愛蓮説で言及されているもので、蓮は泥の中から生まれても汚れなく美しいことから、世俗や煩悩に染まらず清く生きる人のことを言う。しかしながら、蓮は泥がなければ育つことはないので、清濁を併せ持つことの美しさとしてこの言葉を好んでいる。
この考えは自分の制作にも大きく影響し、相反するものが調和した姿こそ蓮の花のような美しさを生み出すのではないかと思う。
今回のモデルの玉木くんはInstagramで写真を見た時の第一印象どおりの好青年だった。幼い頃からスポーツに慣れ親しんだ彼の、清らかな美しさをあえて暗い世界に落とし込んでみた。イメージソースは北野武。笑いと暴力の権化でありながらどこか清潔な姿。唯一無二の存在感。
スタイリングは独立したばかりで私の細かいリクエストに応えてくれた花梨。メイクはKOTOさん。男性に、青年としての美しさを際立てるメイクアップを施してくれた。ヘアのKIYOさんは、玉木くんに新しいスタイルを提示し、見事なリーファン使いで画に動きを与えてくれた。
“The lotus blooms in the mud.” That sentence was talked about in the Vimalakirti Sutra and On the Love of the Lotus by 周敦颐 Zhou Dun Yi. The meaning is the integrity of a man who lives in a chaotic world without all human desires.
However, I think the lotus can’t bloom without mud. So I prefer this world which means the beauty has light sides and also dark sides. That thought influenced my works. The harmonious that conflict things makes the beautiful lotus.
Shinnosuke Tamaki, who is a model in this shooting, and I found on Instagram, is a good, healthy boy.
I changed his clean image to a dark one. The image source is Takeshi Kitano. He is one of the famous Japanese men in the world. His works are always with laughter and violence. But I thought sometimes he gave us his clean images. Kitano has an amazing, only one style.
Styling was made by Karin, who is independent recently. She made my requested styles.
Makeup is by KOTO-san. She made a beautiful masculine style. KIYO, who is making hair, gave a new style for Shinnosuke. And also, he controls the re-fan and made beautiful wind.
