There’s something about creating a shoot from scratch at home that I really miss.

You cook the dish. You style it. You choose the surface, build the background, move things around until the frame feels right, and create little moments with hand modelling and movement. Every detail is intentional, and you’re solving creative problems as you go.

Commercial shoots are a different kind of learning. We often arrive to a restaurant or set with the final plate ready, beautiful locations already available, and plenty of setups to work with. And there’s a lot to learn from that too.

But those home shoots taught me so much as a food photographer and stylist. They taught me to create the frame, not just photograph what’s in front of me.
And honestly, I miss that.

Lately, I’ve been really busy with commercial shoots, which I’m incredibly grateful for. But somewhere between the deadlines, shoots and deliverables, I’ve realised how much I miss staying home, cooking something, styling it from the ground up and simply playing with an idea until it becomes an image.

These photos are a little reminder of that part of my creativity. ❤️

Sometimes, the best way to grow as a photographer is to create without a brief.

August Recap | Inside Thefoodsnaps 🤍

August was a month of some really exciting projects.
I got to work on a documentary-style project for Qualitea, taking on the director’s role for the first time on a project like this. Seeing the final outcome come together and having the client love it made it even more special.

Then came product shoots for GoodFolks and Silvermill, capturing their products for their websites, along with the usual retainer content days with PappaRich.

And then there was Knorr. One of the projects I’ve been most excited about — food styling for a food commercial. I can’t wait for it to air so I can finally share a little behind-the-scenes with you all.

August was busy, challenging and full of things I’m proud of.
On to the next one. 🤍

July Recap | Inside Thefoodsnaps

July started somewhere completely unexpected—behind the lens in the wild landscapes of Wilpattu, chasing moments that only nature can create.

From there, it was straight back into the studio. Recipe testing, commercial shoots, retainer projects, content planning, client proposals, and hours of styling for an exciting new food commercial kept the days full and the coffee flowing.

Between deadlines came one of the month’s sweetest moments—celebrating an 8th birthday, a reminder that the best memories aren’t always made on set.

Every month tells a different story. This one was about showing up, trusting the process, making time for self-care, and quietly building something bigger—one project, one client, and one frame at a time.

See you in August. 🤍

Story of Me

Five years ago, if someone had told me that food photography would become my career, I probably wouldn’t have believed them.

Before this chapter, I spent nearly 10 years in the IT industry as a Business Consultant. It was a career I had worked hard to build, but deep down, I knew I wanted to create something more personal—something that combined creativity, storytelling, and purpose.

It started with nothing more than curiosity, a camera, and a dream that felt much bigger than my circumstances.

The journey wasn’t glamorous. It was filled with long nights, self-doubt, failed shoots, learning everything from scratch, and trying to build a business while raising my little boy. There were moments when I questioned whether I was good enough, whether clients would ever trust me, and whether I was chasing something impossible.

But every challenge became another reason to keep going.

As a single mother, I didn’t have the luxury of waiting for the “perfect time.” I built my business one client, one photo, one mistake, and one lesson at a time. Every shoot taught me something new. Every rejection made me stronger. Every opportunity reminded me why I started.

Today, I don’t just take photos of food—I help brands tell stories, create recipes, style products, and bring ideas to life. What began as a passion has become my profession, my purpose, and the future I’m creating for my son.

This journey has taught me that success isn’t about having the easiest path. It’s about refusing to give up, even when the road feels uncertain.

If my story can inspire just one person to start before they’re ready, to believe in themselves a little more, then every challenge has been worth it.

Dream. Learn. Keep showing up. The rest will follow. ❤️

Every great creation begins with a spark.
What starts as a few simple ingredients is transformed through passion, precision, and a touch of fire into an experience worth remembering.
Sometimes, transformation isn’t loud—it simply burns bright enough to change everything.
